My entry for the Autopack Visualization Challenge, where the aim of the contest was to visually represent a 3D model of the HIV virus. My entry came in fourth place.[link]

Very nice. Can you describe a little how you did the work? How you got the protein shapes etc.?

The model of the virus was created by the autopack software, and it used the eMPV plugin (for 3ds max) for drawing proteins. There's a lot more information in the link to cgsociety in the description. At the time of the contest, autopack didn't work for the membrane, so I created it myself (the one you see here)
