Description
So...I have been in the kitchen again, and I think I figured out a way to make Ant designed Unique from Mario or Luigi, but still kept the Mario and Luigi charm. The story begins when I made Ant's station of awakening. I thought that the proportions and the posing is near exact to how I imagine Ant being. Proportions being where he is still had the Mario face, but the chubby aspect was nearly gone, making Ant a more thinner person overall. And how the posing worked was a mix of Mario's confident demeanor, and a bit of Luigi's hesitation and fear. Then, I decided to spend a day and night to try and sprite this out for Ant to pass the silhouette test. The silhouette test for those that don't understand this test is how artists often use a silhouette to test whether the character's basic design βreadsβ to the audience. Or if a characters silhouette can be distinct from another character. And it was tough since these are sprites, and sprites are not the same as a 3D model, and or drawing/illustration. But I was able to do something new and pretty distinct from the Mario bros. Here is the process. Like Mario, I kept the mustache, and hat overall cause I feel like the mustache and hat was unique to Ant sense day one. Then like Luigi, I gave him the thin frame the green pole has, and gave him a sorta noticeable chin. And one of the many unique details that I did (That I wanted to make in the very beginning.) was making Ant 4 pixels taller then Mario, but 4 pixels shorter then Luigi. To give context, I felt like Ant would be the in between of the brothers, Mario being 5'5, Ant being 5'7, and finally, 5'9. And I was able to complete this. But how did I do this with the Mario head Ant had. That's the funny thing...I didn't. Well kind of. See, while it was the Mario head I have used, the final 2 unique features that makes Ant stand out from the bros is the edition of a slightly bigger nose and bigger ears. Funny enough, Mario and Luigi out of all the features present on the sprites, the ears and nose are exactly the same size. So when I made the nose bigger and ear slightly bigger after editing the head slightly (thanks to ThunderX on Discord for giving me the suggestion.), Ant has finally done something most recolors would wish to get past, the silhouette test. And that is the story of how Ant has got his redesign, that actually changes more then the clothes, without having the SMG4 effect. At least I can see. Let me know what you think of the look, and if you want to make a 3D model, or drawing of Ant, go right ahead. I am very curious on how this new Ant with the big nose and big ears (and the new hair style under his hat, but I'll talk about it in a sec.) look in those new styles. But in drawing or modeling, there needs to be a blueprint. So here you go.Mario like aspects: Sideburns, mustache, and hat.
Luigi like aspects: Thinner frame, Alpha Dream socks (Purple), and slightly noticable chin.
Mixed aspects: Alpha Dream style (Black eyes can either be one to one, or Classic Sonic like for a cuter design) back hair (don't know what it's called), and hands.
Ant unique: Bigger nose, bigger ears, the circle on his back is like Goku's logo except with an "A" for his name, the white circle with a beige dot on his vest is a emblem for "A.M" for his grandfather, Armada Mario, and the in-between height of the Mario Bros, 5'7
Have fun with this information, I would love to see the creations that spawn from this actually new Ant Marco West. ^^
