oh yes, for sure. there are a few Gators... but they are hard to get photos of.
also some MASSIVE turtles... like, could-swallow-a-chihuahua-whole big (but i never have my camera when i find them! ).

Yep, gators are badass. About like dinosaurs in the brains dept.
Western box tortoises live out here, but about half get killed every year by cars. We've got two now, hibernating fitfully for the winter. The first one we had, we rescued from the road out in the desert. My son was maybe six years old and could barely hold 'em. As soon as we got home, he bit a chunk of the dog's nose off. Jeez. We put the dog back together, but he always stayed six feet away from the turtle!

Those big snappers might look sluggish, but they're lightning fast. I had no money for a vet. I applied some neomycin and held that damned chunk of nose in place for like four hours... poor old Lucky wasn't feeling like licking his nose for a couple weeks. But it took.
