Description
If I collected the lies I've been told I could make myself a skeleton. 206 hollow bones made of hollow words. The bigger lies are structural support, holding up the rest of me. 33 dishonest "I love yous" could be 33 intersecting vertebrae, composing my curving spine.I could gather shards of my 10 favorite broken promises to be my long, sharp finger nails. The 10 runner ups fit on the tips of my toes.
Spiderweb truths, theirs and mine, will weave my new skin. An average of 20 feet of sticky substance, easily torn and easily rewoven.
Words will circulate like blood through the 100,000 miles of my veins. Cynicism creates phagocytes, attacking all foreign bodies of hope.
2 hazel eyes are formed from memories. Green from springs come and gone. Brown from Autumns just the same. Rods and cones of years gone by interpret the way I see things now.
My heart is love, beating on and on. 72 times 24, beating, beating, beating, never stopping till death. My soul, however, is borrowed from nothing else. It is always my own.

erm - forgive a biology geek, but I think where you put lysosomes, you meant phagocytes. Lysosomes are organelles inside cells, are are the cell's 'dustbin'. Phagocytes are the cells that wander around and engulph things.
Other than that, this is fantastic.

A very interesting concept! Makes one wonder what we are really made up of. Very well written. The line about "cynicism and lysosomes" describes how I've been feeling lately perfectly.
Thank you for writing this amazing piece!

Ouch, yup I'm in a similar place. Good idea and I like how you are working with it.
I like your use of repetition. It works for me as I get a sense of the repetition seen on a skeleton. Many vertebrae, many ribs, all doubled.
There is something that I feel is missing in the last section. Something left unanswered or un-responded to.

AnUrbanNomad In reply to Arrowtongue [2011-03-29 03:44:11 +0000 UTC]
I hadn't even thought of that with the repetition. Cool!
I'll take a look at the ending and see what I come up with. Thanks!

Haha no problem! I'm pre med but people are surprised when they find out I love to write. Really, it's like people seem to think science and art are polar opposites, but they are really the same thing when you think about it. The human body is a brilliant work of art, the intricate chain reactions that happen in a second, a delicate pattern of links that work wonders. Everything has an individual function, and is created perfectly to accomplish it. It's beautiful. If only people realized they were the same way..... each with their own specific role, with experiences that shape them into a being uniquely qualified to fulfill it.

I think people are too close minded when it comes to art. Everything is an art if done or viewed properly.

AnUrbanNomad In reply to sillycanadianwriter [2011-04-05 02:43:43 +0000 UTC]
I was thinking of some people actually. Sorry, I've had a lot of shit going done today with part relationships.
There are other things too… let me see if I can think of any off the top of my head.
I find a lot of beauty in utter chaos, the kind that makes most people just shut down. I find it thrilling and stunning. In symmetry of things, like numbers and some math problems. I'll be in math tests thinking how pretty the problems looks how nice all the numbers line up and then I get distracted by that, gladly because I hate math. And in things I just shouldn't, gross things, carcasses on the beach or patterns in mud, the litter on the side of the highway. The highway itself while I'm driving. I zone out so easily on things when it's least convenient but I think they're so stunning and I can't not get wrapped up in my head thinking about them.
Right, sorry about the novel length answer. I hope this answered your question. Like I said, I'm a little out of it today.

No, no I totally understand, and that was absolutely gorgeous. I am much the same way. I find myself stopping as I walk home to look at the trees, examine the bark up close. When I zone out in class it is not because I'm bored, it's because I'm noticing, I notice the walls, the light, the color. I notice people, their character, their interactions, the way their nose casts a shadow into their eye sockets, the loose strands of hair that float out of their perfect configuration, their expression, the exact way I would shade if I were drawing them... I stare too much, I notice without noticing I'm noticing, and I feel awkward.
I see a dead raccoon on the side of the road with my best friend; he says, "Let's poke it with a stick!" I say, no it's beautiful......
My friend spills on his canvas and is devastated, but I see intricate markings and irregular splotches and it's beautiful..
I feel the dark, horrible parts inside my soul and realize how easily, simply I could give up and let them take over, and it scares me. I want to push them out but I can't, they're beautiful....
Sometimes beauty hurts...
