EDIT: Do you see how old this deviation is? So if I've said some wrong information about Anubis, keep in mind I was younger back then and had the attention span of a bee. I know Anubis doesn't eat souls and all that, I was just young and said a bunch of stuff. So please don't bother correcting me since I know the difference now XPAnubis can look all pretty, with shiny navy-blue fur and tall pointy ears. But when he goes after your soul to devour it and whatnot... he can look like this
A weird style I tried out. This picture was made with 30 brightness on my monitor, so if it looks kinda messy on yours, try setting it to that brightness. Or not O_o
Anyways. I love the Egyptian god Anubis (simply cause he looks like a wolf 8D I'm soooo cliche >_< ) but I know pretty much nothing about him 8D Only that he was the god of embalment... and death... and judgment... and stuff... O_o ^^ xD
So I did a creepy picture of him. D'ya think I did the blend of 'furr and rotting flesh' good, or is it kinda... crappy? x)

A bit out of the traditional, but done well. After all if he is the god of death (or whatnot) shouldn't he look a little bit more dead/morbid.

An amazing piece of art, but in truth, Anubis was the guide for souls, he did not devour them

This looks great! Your rot/fur thing seems to have gone really well.
On that topic, though, while somebody already pointed out that Anubis was generally a guardian to the dead (the Ancient Egyptians frequently saw jackals in cemetaries), and left the actual soul (heart) devouring to Ammit, since Christianity (among others), had little tradition of embalming the dead, they mistook him for something unholy and diseased. Pretty much like this, I guess!
