What is a Room Guardian??

Room Guardians are small creatures that protect one's home from negative spirits and energies. These friends can be easily placed on window sills, kitchen shelves, dressers, or wherever to keep watch over the room. Each guardian has a soft faux fur coat and each is individually sculpted from the wire frame to the clay face and hands, so no two are alike. Room Guardians are not plush, they have a solid body but their arms, tails, and necks are bendable and Inside each of their chests is a unique crystal heart to give each one a different energy. These little guys have a lot of character and they love having a home to watch over.

 1. How did you come up with the room guardian concept?
The idea caught fire when a friend and I were walking through an antique store. On one of the bookshelves sat two stuffed foxes wearing riding clothes. I contemplated buying them because one could convince themselves that their expressionless stares were actually seeing and watching over the room. It was as if they were alive though th

How did you make the ball and socket neck piece?

Oh I don't make it, I buy the 1/8" armature by the foot at www.crscraft.com

I adore your work; it is so inspiring! You say that the first image is the uncooked sculpt- did you cook it on the plastic spine, or is the armature there as a placeholder like the horns?

AnyaBoz In reply to ramalama-bang-bang [2015-12-10 23:32:21 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much! I'm honored to be an inspiration for you!

You are right, the horns and armature are both place holders, I don't cook them with the
sculpt. The armature actually can bake without melting, I have baked them before, but I
noticed that the sockets get a little loser after the heat so I don't do it anymore.

Ah, alright! Thanks for the info (: I'm trying my hand at what you do, and holy cow its showing me how much skill you put into each of your guardians! I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Oh man! I'm glad you are experimenting with it, and just know, you can't help but
get really good at something you've done over 300 times haha. I am hoping to make a
tutorial at some point in the future, but it takes a lot of work

StorybookCreatures [2015-12-05 03:39:07 +0000 UTC]

Sweet, I love the look the matte sealer gave to the plastic horns! Wait-did you bake the plastic? O.O

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AnyaBoz In reply to StorybookCreatures [2015-12-07 18:03:37 +0000 UTC]

Yeah the sealant makes everything blend together so much better.
And no I take the horns out before I bake them I just have them there as place
holders so I know what the sculpt will look like with horns, and so the holes don't
deform where the horns should fit.

StorybookCreatures In reply to AnyaBoz [2015-12-09 01:06:47 +0000 UTC]

Oh okay xD I'm really not sure what 275 degrees would do to the Instamorph~

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AnyaBoz In reply to StorybookCreatures [2015-12-10 23:44:43 +0000 UTC]

When I use instamorph for the claws, I actually do bake them. I used to take them out
and super glue them after, but I experimented by leaving them in one time. The plastic
gets melty, but it doesn't drip or some out, it just slumps when it's something as small as
a claw. When I take the paws out, I will just resculpt the claws with my fingers and let it
cool off.

StorybookCreatures In reply to AnyaBoz [2015-12-11 02:19:11 +0000 UTC]

Cool! So it adheres itself to the clay then?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AnyaBoz In reply to StorybookCreatures [2015-12-11 04:18:05 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't say adheres but they melt into the holes they are
already placed in and form fit enough to be very secure.

StorybookCreatures In reply to AnyaBoz [2015-12-13 01:38:24 +0000 UTC]

Ah! That would be a better fixture than glue. c: I'll have to try that~

Farumir [2015-12-04 19:38:15 +0000 UTC]

What are those little white ball thingies going along the wire neck? Do they make the body bend better or keep it stiff?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AnyaBoz In reply to Farumir [2015-12-07 18:05:15 +0000 UTC]

It is a ball and socket doll armature. I only use it for the neck, but many use it for the hole
body because it bends much better than wire and it holds its position better. It would be very
good for stop motion stuff like I know you do

Farumir In reply to AnyaBoz [2015-12-07 20:50:23 +0000 UTC]

Ball and socket? I've never heard of that one for OOAK dolls, did you buy the armature or did you make it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AnyaBoz In reply to Farumir [2015-12-10 23:36:03 +0000 UTC]

I buy the armature by the foot at www.crscraft.com. I get the smallest size.

Absolutely loving those deep set eyes! With the paint job it's not super apparent when viewing photos, but when he is unpainted those lovely eye sockets are showed off nicely. He must be one magnificent beast in person!
