...Is it made entirely out of polymer clay? o3o

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AnyaStone In reply to Skyelark [2012-10-09 19:18:14 +0000 UTC]

No, the sculpture is polymer clay and then I put feathers on it but first you have to cut them so they are very small and put them on one by one or it just wouldn't look right.

Skyelark In reply to AnyaStone [2012-10-09 22:38:28 +0000 UTC]

Wow, that's gotta be really, really time intensive cutting feathers for so long into such a tiny state.

AnyaStone In reply to Skyelark [2012-10-09 23:17:33 +0000 UTC]

Yes it is but the more time you put in the better outcome. There are quite a few stages to go through before the sculptures are finished. Thanks

Skyelark In reply to AnyaStone [2012-10-09 23:32:31 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. I keep trying to find out how to make mine look good but also not pour hours of time into them because when I go to sell them the amount people offer me for it is kinda...insulting.

AnyaStone In reply to Skyelark [2012-10-12 11:15:11 +0000 UTC]

Yes that's the problem with art, some people can make millions from splashing paint on a canvas, others take ages and get less for all the work involved. Good luck with your art anyway.

You too! I love your pieces. Very inspiring! I do have one more question if you don't mind too much. How on Earth do you make such beautiful eyes for your miniatures?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AnyaStone In reply to Skyelark [2012-10-13 11:27:53 +0000 UTC]

Sure, I use 2 - 3mm half hole beads or glass eyes, it's the only thing that works on this scale, then I paint the pupil on with a needle and glaze it. Hope this helps

Skyelark In reply to AnyaStone [2012-10-13 21:58:15 +0000 UTC]

*nod* Man, I just can't believe how amazing these are. I guess the proportions and textures help to sell it the most, though. You must have studied a long time in art class, hm?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AnyaStone In reply to Skyelark [2012-10-15 17:22:34 +0000 UTC]

Thank you .I went to college to study art at 17 but found it repetitive drawing still life all the time, so I left after a few months and started selling paintings. A lot of the techniques used for the sculptures I learnt through trial and error and experimenting with different mediums.

Skyelark In reply to AnyaStone [2012-10-18 16:31:08 +0000 UTC]

Wow. Did you ever have to read up on doing miniatures or did you just take off to it right away as you were practicing drawing and art?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AnyaStone In reply to Skyelark [2012-10-19 11:21:10 +0000 UTC]

I just took it up I didn't have any experience with sculpting other than what I learnt by myself so I kept on experimenting and borrowing books from the library mainly about anatomy but I always loved polymer clay and used to make things out of it as a kid. You can learn techniques to do things but I think it's because I like what I am doing that I keep challenging myself to make more and more things. My work has improved from when I first started. Same will happen with you too, the more you practice the better you will get. I'll have to take a look at your gallery.

Skyelark In reply to AnyaStone [2012-10-19 19:55:51 +0000 UTC]

Oh! Thank you so much, it's really an honor. My work is still growing a lot really I've been trying to find as many people that work on miniatures as possible because so many of the techniques feel so much more different than tradition sculpture. Also that so many of the images I see are often just miniature food or D&D figures. That or they don't pay much attention to the smaller details like I've seen in a lot of your animal pieces, each of which, I'll say again, is very beautiful.
