Colt 1911 ?

Top half of the clothes look like late 1970's French Land Army. Am I right ?

I don't think so, but it's a cheap airsoft replica so I'm not sure. As to the costume it's just a mishmash of random stuff I had lying about.

TheGoldilocks In reply to ColonelBSacquet [2014-04-12 20:42:58 +0000 UTC]

Actually, I'm pretty sure this is Marine's formal dress. Or...something of that matter. I've seen plenty Marines wear this recently.

ColonelBSacquet In reply to TheGoldilocks [2014-04-12 21:42:37 +0000 UTC]

Hmm. Seems legit.

Korban3 In reply to ColonelBSacquet [2014-04-13 06:58:16 +0000 UTC]

Correct. Reference pose aside, that's the piss cover we wear with our service uniforms and the wooly pully is an optional uniform item for the service bravos and service charlies uniforms. I only knew a few Marines who wore it while I was active, during training. Mostly my recruiters I remember wearing this. I haven't touched my wooly pully since it was issued to me.

I definitely went 'wat' really hard from that. Just caught me off guard. I also immediately gnit-picked over the lack of insignia. They hardly make privates anymore. Almost everyone leaves boot a PFC.

TheGoldilocks In reply to Korban3 [2014-04-13 08:37:30 +0000 UTC]

I'm not a Marine, but I personally started to nit-pick over the condition the hat and collar is in. :'D I'm not sure if they are as strict with the wear of service dress like other branches are?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Korban3 In reply to TheGoldilocks [2014-04-14 18:07:53 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah, we're strict as hell. I'm a bit biased, but I usually say we're stricter than the other branches. Pretty much everything the Marines do is more stringent and to the letter than the Army or Navy. Makes for some shitty uniform inspections and gear inspections, but it makes us look better.
I wasn't really concerned with the shirt and trousers, since neither of those are actually military apparel. They're just clothes. Nothing to gnit-pick there.

Hawkbri [2014-04-12 17:36:26 +0000 UTC]

And then someone uses it as a referene to draw a character and then looks up a link that looks exactly like this from Ghost In The Shell when confronted "You stole my model!"

Y'see... using stock images like this, and attempting to sell them... it just... doesn't work. We have too much military media as-it-is to have someone trying to make money off of a basic military/police 'load pistol' stock image. It can be ripped off way too easily and you would/will probably never see a dime for this, or most of your other stock photos. If someone DOES use it, well... they still won't pay you, even when confronted, and likely wont give you as reference. People will look towards Bungie's Halo3: ODST and other series, including battlefield and CoD.

If I may suggest something that will help you with your monetary gain?

anyman82 In reply to Hawkbri [2014-04-13 16:34:25 +0000 UTC]

Nah, that's only if it's being used for commercial purposes. Just normal drawing reference and use in photomanipulations are totally free.

Magazine inserted, but slide cocking mechanism not pulled back... the weapon is loaded but will not fire, unless the last round from the previous clip is still there, in which case why is the hammer not cocked?

deathbyskyrim In reply to aegiandyad [2014-04-12 21:41:37 +0000 UTC]

Quite the eye for detail you've got there!

Though I don't think it would be too hard to hand-draw the hammer in its proper place.

aegiandyad In reply to deathbyskyrim [2014-04-13 09:21:51 +0000 UTC]

I should quibble about missing details... in this piece the whole gun is missing! Any suggestion that there is a weapon present was photoshopped in. Ironically the 'hammer' is the only bit that's at all visible and that's only because my stand-in for the grown up Matty Ross from TRUE GRIT has her thumb poised over it in the approved manner*. The old-timers never kept a chambered round under the hammer, too easy to shoot yourself in the leg. "We revolved our pistols.." one sherrif wrote, about an occasion on which he and his deputy were about to enter a rowdy bar to interrupt some trouble. You didn't go in with your piece holstered and then start challenging the local gun man to a fast draw contest. If you meant business you had the gun in your hand at the outset, like Clint Eastwood in the final scene of Unforgiven when he walks into a whore house parlour full of enemies carrying a double barreled shotgun, shoots the owner/manager and then has his weapon misfire when he tries to kill rogue sheriff Gene Hackman.

*[There was no gun, this is an own stock single source edit and I didn't bother to paste one in.]

Take a look at this bio of Grant-Taylor www.cqbservices.com/?page_id=5… . My father was taught his methods when he became an officer in the Indian Army after the war [but pre-independence] and carried a Webley .455 of the kind illustrated in the article. He was taught to clear it from its holster, enter a room and kill six occupants in less than five seconds. In fact he had it down to just over three and half. The training was for fighting post war bandits called 'Dakoits'. One of them was killed when an armed soldier entered a brothel where he was either hiding or waiting for service. He panicked and made the mistake of reaching for a concealed weapon and was shot out of hand by a squaddy with good reflexes.

anyman82 In reply to aegiandyad [2014-04-12 11:55:20 +0000 UTC]

Because it's a crappy airsoft pistol.

This series was more geared towards hand and arm position. Next time I get my hands on a real firearm I plan to do a more detailed shoot focusing on the actual mechanics.

We practiced with the 'Plinkomatic' CO2 powered semi-automatic .177 model. Wallace and Gromit would have been proud of its design. My father wanted it because it weighed about the same as the US Navy pattern Colt .45 automatic for which his yearly ammunition allowance was ten rounds, too few to practice with. That was Southern Rhodesia in the 1960s for you! They had a very British attitude towards gun control.
