well, back there I was doing a thing called “national service” it’s volunteering for the country for one or two years. The country gives you along with the job a small amount of money every month and apartment with other roommates. And also free travels (busses and trains)
I chose not to live near by my parents so I didn’t have much support.
At (almost) every end of a month I stayed with no money because I ran out of it quickly. So many times I stayed hungry.
Luckily my past job (with the kids) had meals so at least I had one meal in day when I ran out of money ^^’ and sometimes I were visiting my grandparents too.

Doing national service is admirable, tough it
sounds like people are not treated well enough
for the often important work they do.
A similiar concept exists in Germany, where you can
voluntarily choose to a "free social year",
"free ecological year" or a year of military service.
I heard some bad things about people who did this...
