Description WIP inspired by the Greek myth of Narcissus and Echo. Daffodil Lament by The Cranberries may have had a hand in it too. No idea why she's got a horned helm . . . It just happened.

My initial plan was to use greyscale with pops of yellow and white but I started and my mind was just: "Paint her like a sunset." So that is why you get a blue haired nymph who's oompa loompa orange. I have many regrets.

Ah, thank you so much! I'm glad people seem to like it.

I was really put off when I started colouring it differently than I'd initially planned. It just sort of happened.

I love her... That hair movement is gorgeous, and the lines and colors look all sweepy (is that a word?). Also I need to buff my greek mythology knowledge, I only kind of remember Echo.Ā

I'm still figuring out how to draw (I don't think I can even go near colors atm) and mostly I use myths and iconography from tarot cards and the zodiac. It's really cool to see skilled people drawing on related inspirations.

Thank you! You can't see the rest of her pose 'cause I cropped out a nipple, but she's supposed to be dancing. Sweepy is exactly what I was going for! I remember watching animated versions of Greek myths growing up and the stories always stuck with me.

That's really neat! Colouring artwork can be intimidating for sure. The fear that you'll mess it all up is very real but mistakes are a huge part of learning. I look forward to seeing your work should you decide to share it. If not, I understand. Art can be very personal.

I love drawing inspiration from myth, tarot cards, and the zodiac.Ā  Some tarot cards have the most gorgeous artwork.Ā

Whaaaaat!? You think I'm skilled? Ā

I think you captured the movement really well! I read a collection of Norse myths a while ago and I'm still not ready to move on. I think maybe I need to write/draw about it and then it'll leave me alone.Ā

I went ahead and put up some of my sketches (mostly I haven't posted much because I don't want to be embarrassed by it later, but it'll probably be good to have a way to log progress). and they're eh but I'm still learning.Ā

Yes! From what I've seen, your art is really clean and professional looking, and I can tell it takes a lot of careful work and dedication

Norse myths are another favorite of mine! My dad's side of the family immigrated from Norway and Sweden ages ago so there's a certain connection there. I really should read more of them sometime. Good luck with your creative endeavors! I'm sure they will be rewarding.

I'm gonna go check 'em out asap! (That's understandable. I recently unearthed a stash of my drawings from 2006 and I'm not sure if I should post and redraw them to show my progress. It might be interesting.) I'll be sure to comment on them.

Thank you! I'd say I'm more stubborn than anything. I don't know when to give up and will push myself to finish something even when I've made it needlessly complicated. I guess that counts as dedication. Lol

I got introduced to Norse myths by my English teacher, and they make me feel weird and nostalgic for some reason. I have no clue why. Here's a free place online to get started reading or rereading them if you're interested:

Ā  www.sacred-texts.com/neu/ice/c…

(Provided you haven't seen it already. I'm not really sure how widespread this specific site is but I'll share it just in case). It's probably not the greatest source but it saved me from having to start out by buying a book and it's a really convenient place to brush up on Norse mythology.Ā

I think it'd really be cool to see a 2006/2019 comparison type thing. It's sort of a badge of honor to be able to do that kind of thing to demonstrate how much things have changed

And thank you for the luck! I'll definitely be needing it...Ā

I know that feeling! That's like the ocean or any large body of water for me . . . I've lived in a landlocked area my entire life but put me by the ocean and suddenly I'm overcome by melancholic nostalgia. Why must I stare pensively at the ocean? No idea.

(Ooooh, free resources! Thank you for this bounty.)

Ahahaha. Yeah, about that . . . It's mostly a collection of poorly drawn floating anime heads. Junior high me hated drawing bodies evidently. Oh, or I could draw bodies and glue the 2006 heads onto them. Like a nightmarish collage. I like that idea.

No worries! I'm sure you'll do great.
