Today we worry about any "needless" suffering a person being put to death might endure. Time was, that executions took care to maximize suffering. The death process was to be as slow as possible, and as painful as possible. The Chinese believed that the soul would forever bear the damage done in the execution, so methods such as "The Death of a Thousand Cuts" were used. To go into examples you would find excruciating, so I made my point prompt.

I drew it in April 2013.
