But for all we know, so far, he was a robot created by Gerald to get a cure on earth for maria, but never got the chance. Then he finds out he might just be a copy of his former self in sonic heroes, which no one brings that up for some reason, he goes to find his origins, and then PLOT TWIST it was black doom/arms who used his DNA to help in the creation of shadow (which adds to more confusion over the other 3, 4 ways he was created ) and now he's just a character I now call Kirk because well, it's not shadow, and Because he has no pathetic friends to make him weak.

Ok yeah his backstory is dodgy. I looked a sonic heroes and yeah huge hint that he could be an android - but on the wikia there have been claims that (this is what they said) in a certain boss fight in Shadow's game, if you play long enough, Eggman will admit that he sent robots to capture/save Shadow when he fell to earth and say that he's the real thing. Srsly how else would he still have memories of Maria? (Unless Eggman went to the trouble of finding away to copy memories). I dunno the continuity in these games is overall dodgy but i still believe he's the same one as the first and those androids are just pathetic fakes of him. So its a bit of a topic for debate.
BTW Kirk? Interesting choice. Cute icon too XD

Well, I know that Eggman admitted to saving him, but the reason maria is dead is because of Gerald's project shadow. Shadow was a robot designed to give maria a friend while she was stuck on the ark because of her uncureable sickness, which gerald would have sent shadow to retrieve later.

Kirk something or another is the new voice actor for shadow, but I liked the old voice actor much better. Same for all of the characters. Sonic heroes had the best voice cast.

I guess people will always be quetioning it until SEGA finally gives a definitive answer. Personally, he is the original to me.
Yeah, i have mixed thoughts on the voice cast. In terms of Shadow and Amy they really need to change.

Actually, that whole mess was cleared up by the writer of the Archie Sonic the Hedgehog comics, Ian Flynn. In the Bumbleking forums under "Ask Ian" in "Novelty Answer Month" (I don't have a link handy so you'll have to Google it), it is stated that Shadow is part Hedgehog and part bio-mechanical construct, which I take to believe that his bodily structure was either enhanced or modified slightly by Professor Gerald to be tougher. 

We KNOW that Black Doom provided DNA for Shadow and that Shadow has real, mobian Hedgehog DNA (probably from a doner, but that's just an educated guess), so there is no way that he's a robot. Also supporting this theory is his need to breathe (Sonic Universe Issue 1), his ability to sleep--or at least lose consciousness (jeez... which Sonic game did he lose that fight in and was carried home by Rouge?), and his ability to eat (again in "Novelty Answer Month" in the Bumbleking forums).

Ultimately, (excuse the pun), the game Shadow the Hedgehog did nothing to help clear up his sketchy past, what with all the alternate endings and such. I find that the Archie comics do a MUCH more satisfying job of explaining things. And I know this argument is a year old, but Shadow is my favorite character and I spent many long hours researching him and getting the most accurate info that I could, all of which permanently lodged itself in my brain. I just wanted to help clear up any confusion. 😊

I really appreciate your insite to all of this! That's all really good info, but then again, the Archie comics are on a completely different timeline with a completely different story set, not to burst your bubble, you are a very intelligible person, and I appreciate that! The Shadow the Hedgehog game is very confusing, so much to the point where I almost disregard it completely, while it does make good points, I have the slightest feeling it contradicts what was said in Adventure 2. I just feel like Adventure 2 would have hinted towards an alien race just mysteriously appearing at the ARK. It just seems out of place to me. But it happened so it's true I guess :V
Also, I was reading through some Archie forums myself, and it was actually Sonic's DNA they used! Weird huh? Even though shadow is 35 years older than Sonic (Sonic was 15 throughout all of the sonic games. Including generations as mentioned by a developer I believe) I forgot what else I was going to say, but I'll remember it soon , _,

It would have been impossible to get Sonic's DNA, since that was 50 years before he was born. But even so, I tend to disregard the SEGA canon in favor of Archie's, since the games have so much inconsistency. Sometimes there is no true winner or "right side" to these fan debates. 😄 I actually learned that the hard way. Forgive and forget and love those blasted Hedgehogs!
