Description
Another picture of my custom guitar, from another angle. Every time I move to take a picture, it's a different color! Gah, I looooove color shifting paint. One of the best things since sliced bread. There's more info about this guitar elsewhere in my gallery, or feel free to ask questions.Related content

Thank you! It looks pretty gruesome at the moment, I had to do some wet sanding to make it uber smooth, but after I repaint it, it'll be soooo sick.

Haha, alright. I'll see if I can get some shots of the neck and everything.

I'm glad you like it! You should make one, that would be awesome! Do you have a guitar?

Yep. A second hand acoustic. It's old but I still love it.

Aaah those are the best! If it's old, you can just call it vintage.

I have never eaten a twinkie. Are they nice?

No. I'd have to say that twinkies are nasty to the power of 200 . They're supposed to be good, though.

Hahaha, they supposedly ferment into a vaguely alcoholic substance after x amount of years, but I wouldn't know from personal experience

Thank you! I just noticed that the designs on the edges look funky because of the contours. I probably should have taken the pic from a different angle, but I can't take a good picture to save my life, anyways

Thank you! You can try, but it may end in tears, I make no promises on the state of your sanity at the end of such a project.

haha, well I like building things... and I play guitar... so I think this might be up my alley. Did you cut the whole thing out of a piece of wood, or just use an existing strat body?

apachetears In reply to SojinnZero [2009-07-08 03:24:45 +0000 UTC]
Thank you for the favorite! I bought a 3 piece block of alder, and used a router (controlled by a computer) to cut out the shape, and then a hand rasp for the contours and neck. If you don't have access to a router, you can use a band saw or a hand/manual router. I'm not a big fan of strat bodies, anyways, even the one I customized .

I see. Hmm, I might just buy a cheap already made body... definitely don't have access to a router. The grooves in your guitar body remind me of a style of art called Scrimshaw. So I would cut the grooves in it, then douse the guitar in some kind of color, but wipe it away from the surface, and then the color would stay in the grooves

Ooooh man that sounds uber awesome. Band saws and sandpaper work just as well as a router, it's just a little more dangerous
That would look great, though, but how would you get paint on the rest of the body without getting it in the grooves?

you're supposed to get in in the grooves. You pour it all over, and then wipe it away from the top before it dries and it stays in the grooves...
