This may be a dumb question but how do you do your background like that? it really nice looking!

The sky was just a simple skycard edit. Just make sure all the parameters in the vmt are correct. (VertexLitGeneric instead ofΒ UnlitGeneric) it will make the model not glow in the dark, then you would be able to shine lights on it.
As for the plants, it was just a matter of how you play with the lights, but unlike what Mr. said, rim lights are only used on models when you want it to stand out more and when lights hit a object that faces direct in the light source. (like twilight on the poster), there for I just positioned the lights so that it would get a better affect, shining the lights direct on the plants make it more light and vice versa. Just Play around and see what works!
Thats pretty much all I can tell, it is very difficult to explain what I did, cuz it just comes naturally, so I too dont know what I do sometimes!

I still need more practice, I find my recent posters too... rough, you know. You fellows are making it a bit softer, and it looks really good.
Unfortunately, I have no time and almost no ideas for additional practice - trying to change that recently.

yep, thats why I made a strict time schedule to work on SFM and when I shouldnt. To just have time for everything ya know.
But its easier said then done tho. So I completely understand your situation.
