Finally got around to finishing my reference sheet for my dæmon Lutheus. I've been meaning to do it for a while, but seeing *CunningFox 's Pyrrheus picture motivated me to actually colour the scribbles I'd done

So, this is my dæmon. For those who dont know, the daemon is an animal representation of your personality. Dæmons were described by Socrates as a sort of conscience type voice in a person's head (more info here if anyone is interested ). I got into dæmons through Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials, which I love (if you haven't noticed that yet you probably haven't known me for long ). If I keep trying to describe exactly what a dæmon is I'll botch it up, so if you're interested you can go to TDP for an eloquent description.

I'm not quite sure what more there is to say about him... And he's a binturong. And he likes green quite a bit.

Binturong analysis here. This is pretty much a description of my personality Which I was surprised at at first.

This is what we can do, we can have binturong interesting information time! Because I find them facinating, and have been researching them since I saw that the analysis fit me so well. Here goes:

- Female binturongs, like female spotted hyenas, have pseudopenises, though they are not as developed as those of spotted hyenas. Females are dominant over males, and can be considerably larger.

- Binturongs are also thought to be one of several different species of mammal capable of embryonic diapause, essentially the ability to freeze an embryo to stop it developing until conditions are favourable.

- They are the only Old World carnivore to have a prehensile tail. They also prefer to eat fruit, despite being a carnivore.

- Their whiskers can grow over 20cm long.

- Binturongs can partially rotate their hind legs to allow them to walk head first down a vertical tree, despite often being 180cm long and weighing nearly 20kgs.

- Binturongs are Viverrids, along with civets and genets. They occupy pretty much the same evolutionary niche as mustalids (weasles, ferrets, badgers), but mustalids are more closely related to dogs whereas viverrids are related to cats.

- Binturong saliva has healing properties. It has been found that a wound licked by a binturong will heal overnight with reduced scarring.

Finally, everybody's favourite fact:

- Binturongs smell like warm popcorn (though my sister maintains that they smell like overcooked and off popcorn. I disagree). The smell is produced by a scent gland near their tail which they rub against things as they travel to mark their territory. The smell is very strong, which is one reason that binturongs don't make good house pets (apparently they also shred furniture). People do keep binties as pets though, they are meant to be very affectionate as companion animals.
