I...originally wrote a long 5 paragraph in depth description about this manip, and what it meant, but, sadly, DA ate it up in a error page. Obviously, I was very annoyed. I don't feel like writing the description again, so you guys can figure it out by yourselves. And yes, it does have a actual meaning to it.

It may have an actual meaining behind it, but I'm strongly against sourcing stock photography and then using it in my work. I believe that digital photo maniuplations should be created from original sources (that the maniuplator has taken themselves)
but other than that, the storytelling behind this picture is strong.

Oh. I see your point.
However, the images that I use are all stock photos. Meaning the photographers took the pictures solely for the purpose of other artists using them (the photos) in their various projects.
Also, I don't see how works that use the same stock photo would be uncreative and repetitive. In the DA section for manipulations, it says, and I quote: "The extent of manipulation should be prominent and noticeable in ways where it can be clearly distinguishable from the unaltered photograph." The way people manipulate photos vary person to person, so one manip naturally tends to be different from another. Project themes also vary, and that also affects the way people may manip.
Of course, there are exceptions to this. Some people are lazy and they don't bother to change the photo much...but then again, there are exceptions to any rule.

The laziness is my point exactly.. but if you look at it seriously.. have the photo manips on DA are really poorly done and don't deviate from the original image all that much. I tend to see a lot of crap on here... so thats why i'm cynical towards photo manips utulizing stock.

You shouldn't judge the whole community just by what the majority (or what you view as the majority) does. Some of us actually strive to make quality art with the stocks that are provided for us. I do understand where you're going with this, but just because some people make crap...it doesn't mean we all do.
