I think it may be because they're Disney proportions, but not Disney style. Personally I think they will work well as this new style gets ironed out by Apofiss

I've been trying to do such a painty style like your for a while and just can't seem to get it. I love your work so much... Now... Do you start with a sketchy 'lineart' of sorts, or do you just dive into the colours and the shading and such?
