When he reached the bridge, he saw her. She was leaning on the railing, looking down tiredly at the path below.
Kyoya was at a loss. There was too much emotion washing over him. Pain, joy, regret.
She was much taller, still thin, but it was lazily hidden under an over sized knitted sweater. And her hair was a least twice as long as it was when she’d left. Down to her hips but slightly moving in the wind.
Then she looked at him.
In her eyes… Kyoya couldn’t tell what she was thinking.
What is she doing here? She hates it here. She hates me. Why would she come back after I hurt her? Does she hate me? Why would she not hate me? Does she think she can disappear for four years and just… come back out of the blue? Did she come to see me?
Then, he got a better look her her face. Over her left eye… was that, a scar? It was. A thin scar running from her forehead beneath her bangs to just above her jaw.
That scar… she got it because of me. I hurt her. I physically hurt her.

This is a scene that I've wanted to draw for as long as I've known the story of Sahara Yuko and Kyoya Tategami. The scene that begins it all. The scene that is the first steps these two must take to overcome their trials and tribulations. The scene that is their reunion. The first time they lay eyes on each other for nearly 4 years.
For a long time I struggled with this scene. It was very serious, and writing it well has been something giving me trouble since I first had ideas for their reunion as far back as 2016. But even harder than writing this scene for me has been illustrating it. Especially Kyoya's side of it. Drawing Kyoya in general has always been very interesting for me. As I see him, Kyoya exists in an odd balance between being somber & stoic, and being very expressive; especially in his eyes. I knew that, in order to be content with this drawing, I would have to capture that emotion in his eyes. And, I'm glad to say that I think I at least partially achieved that. The wide-eyed awe in Kyoya's face, hiding the faintest bits of fear and panic. Furthermore, drawing in the MFB style really helped with that. With my own style, I tend to have trouble with more dynamic expressions-- like this one. MFB's more dramatic faces really served this scene well, don't you think? (also of note: This background is not 100% original. It is a very edited and recolored version of a MFB background)

Well, let's see, anything else to mention here... oh! The quote at the top of this description! That list of Kyoya's muddled thoughts when seeing Sahara is an excerpt from the timeline of this story my cowriter and I are working on. There's another view of this scene-- Sahara's-- that isn't mentioned above. That is because I'm planning to do another drawing from this scene; one of Sahara.
