Snow Powder had stumbled upon a strange, blue land where she met a dragon named Alberta. The rainforest was not what she was used to; coming from the cold freezing north. Soon enough the two became friends, and Snow Powder asked Alberta what she liked to do in the wintertime.

"Well." Alberta said, smiling. "I love fishing! I also really love flying, and going for a nice swim."

"But that's not special to winter." Snow Powder frowned. "Don't you have something you do in winter that you don't do during other seasons?"
"Like what?" Alberta asked. "What do YOU do in the winter?"
"Well, I make snow angels, and go sledding in the snow. And sometimes I build snowwolves."
"Snow?" Alberta looked confused.
"You know, the white stuff that comes in winter." Snow Powder explained, but Alberta still looked confused. "It's white and fluffy and wet and cold." Snow Powder explained uncomfortably, not quite believing Alberta had never heard of snow before.
"Oh!" A look of realization crossed Alberta's face. "I think I know what you're talking about! You say you sled down this stuff?!"
"Yeah!" Snow Powder piped up, excitement crawling up her spine. "Usually on a wooden board of some sort called a sled. It's really fun, it feels like flying! Er-to us ground creatures." She explained, squinting her eyes at Alberta's wings. "I suppose it wouldn't be that much fun for you..."
"Well to be honest, I've never tried it!" Alberta exclaimed. "I mean I never would have even thought about it. Do you really just ride this stuff? It seems kind of dangerous!"
"Well it's soft at the bottom. But I guess sometimes it can hurt if you land awkwardly." Snow Powder agreed. "But the snow usually cushions your fall."
"Hmm..." Alberta looked very skeptical for a moment, her brow knitted in wrinkly patterns. "Well...that doesn't sound likely, but if you say so..."
"At Christmas, we also dress up trees in lights!" Snow Powder said, switching topics. "Pine trees! But it looks like you don't have any here..."
"I'm as big as lots of these trees." Alberta pointed out. "You could dress ME up in these lights. That would be cool!"

Later, after Alberta and Snow Powder had dressed her up in Christmas lights, and Alberta had admired the many different colours she often didn't get to see in her blue rainforest, Alberta suggested they try to go "sledding."
"Well I haven't seen any snow around here, but if you can find some, sure!" Snow Powder exclaimed.
"I know just the place!" Alberta vowed.
Together they built a simple sled made of the surrounding trees, and then Alberta told Snow Powder to climb on.
"I've never been flying before..." Snow Powder admitted, looking down nervously. "I don't know..."
"It's fun! I promise I won't drop you!"
"Well...alright." Snow Powder climbed onto the sled hesitantly.
Alberta flew them to the top of a cliff where a raging river poured over top of a cliff for miles downward.
"Wow! What a view!" Snow Powder breathed.
"Yep!" Alberta puffed out her chest proudly. "This is the highest point in the rainforest! Perhaps the tallest waterfall in the world!"
"Marvelous!" Snow Powder looked down, feeling her belly squirm and her mind grow dizzy just seeing the height as the water disappeared into the black abyss below. "But...I thought we were going sledding. You were going to take me to the snow?"
"Yes, this is it!" Alberta replied briskly, waving Snow Powder away as she surveyed the depths below them. "That white stuff at the bottom right? Cold and white and wet? Let's go!"
"WAIT-" Snow Powder cried. "THAT'S NOT-"
"Here we go!" Alberta launched herself off the edge, before Snow Powder could even jump off the sled.
Snow Powder screamed but her voice was swallowed by the pounding of the falls. They plummeted down the waterfall, the sled riding the waves. Freezing cold water splashed Snow Powder in the face but she hardly noticed it as the bottom raced towards them ever closer.
We're going to die. Snow Powder thought, her eyes rolling into the back of her head in terror.
Just at the last moment, and as Snow Powder's heart leapt into her mouth, Alberta flared her wings and they were suddenly jerked upwards, riding the waterfall mist as it buffeted them upwards.
"You're right, that was AWESOME!!!" Alberta did a little flip in the air, hugging Snow Powder and the sled tightly so they wouldn't fall. "Although I admit I got a little scared at the end! I really don't think snow could cushion us from those sharp rocks at the bottom. Maybe for you, cause you're small, but not for large creatures like me!"
"THAT'S. NOT. SNOW!" Snow Powder choked out, her eyes as huge as lightbulbs. "Snow is more dense...it catches us. That stuff is just condensation! NOT THE SAME THING! WE COULD HAVE DIED!!!"
"Oh! I thought it sounded a little funny when you said it would cushion our fall." Alberta smiled. "Good thing I pulled up at the last second!"
Snow Powder started hyperventilating.
"But it was fun wasn't it? We should do it again sometime! You're right, winter should have it's own special activities! I like that one!"
"I'm going to stick with dressing you up in Christmas lights." Snow Powder laid down, exhausted.
"OH yeah! I forgot I was still wearing these! I must have looked pretty awesome, barrelling down the cliffside all glowing and stuff! I bet all the prey within a 10 mile radius fled! A real treat for the fish though, I must say!"
"Right..." Snow Powder leaned over and threw up.

A contest entry for AlbertaBlu 's contest! In Alberta's world, her jungle and everything in it is blue, and the rainforest pretty much stays the same all year round, so I tried to compensate by having a foreigner show up not understanding anything about the rainforest, trying to show her friend what she did in her home country in the winter time and for Christmas. Don't ask how the Christmas lights would light up without electricity. Let's just say they're solar powered.

Half of it was done on my tablet and half of it was done with a mouse because my tablet decided that I had too many layers and it couldn't compute lol. So I did the rest on my laptop with my mouse. 8 hours total.

Winter is my favourite season! I just love the snow, it makes everything so beautiful. But I chose to do a character of Alberta's that didn't live in a place that ever had snow. So I had to improvise... I don't know which one I like better, the one I drew with Christmas lights or the one I drew without so I think I'll just enter both of them in.

I tried to think of a new-and-never-before-seen kind of theme, but I couldn't think of anything special and I just went with my original idea, so sorry if it's really lame and unoriginal xD
