Description Commission that
WhenBooksFly101 requested of her character, Vashti!

To order a commission like this one, please go here:

Christmas Special Sketch Commissions! These are going to be on sale for $3.00 US each (or 240 points!) Each one is sketched on toned paper. The tone can be any colour you want. The original is tan, however I can change the tone on Photoshop to any colour, although I recommend that tan or yellow's as well as black and white look the best in my opinion. These are traditional sketches,  but are highlighted using Photoshop CS6. The highlights are digital but everything else is traditional.

I can also add colour for an additional $2.00, therefore coloured ones will be $5.00 US, or 400 points, and they will be coloured digitally.

Teach me your ways of the pencil...

It's pretty simple actually. You just scribble lightly for lighter shades and slowly and gentle press your pencil downwards as you scribble to make a gradient from lighter to darker. First determine your light source and where it's coming from, then draw in a gradient-style fashion where you think the shadows would be. As for the outline itself, mostly it's drawing and redrawing. I recommend drawing it lightly first in case you have to do any erasing (it's pretty much guaranteed), and then you kind of just keep redrawing and erasing and fixing lines until it looks the way you want. Once you have the outline you can determine your light source and start shading.

0-0 thanks. Oh, hey do you know what a tortillion is? It’s this cool little tool for shading with pencil. You can get them at a craft shop, or even make them yourself, they’re pretty simple. They’re my go to for detail shading with lead. Another option is a thing called a paper stump, that is a bit stronger and won’t wear down as easily, although it doesn’t have as fine a tip. You should look into them, they can increase your shading with pencil a lot.

We used those in school for shading charcoal and stuff, yeah. The problem with them is that once it's smeared with pencil, it will screw up your drawing if you reuse a used side
