This picture represents the most fundamental spell of casting the circle. This is to be cast before doing any sort of magik. This can be done very simply or very elaborate. Below is a simple version of this spell. Remember, as with all magick, do what feels right to you.

Relax and calm your mind. Starting at the east, take your dagger (or wand) and trace a pentagram in the air while saying "Guardians of the (insert direction: east, south, west, north), angels of (insert element: air, fire, water, earth) please guide and protect me. Lend your power and blessing to this spell, if it be your will" Repeat this at each of the 4 directions, tracing a pentagram at each direction and saying the corresponding direction and element. As you move from each direction trace an arc of the circle and imagine that arc being pure divine white light. When you come back to the east at the end say "This space is protected by divine white light. It is clear of all harmful, disruptive, and unbalanced energies and filled with healing, harmonious energies. All work performed within this sacred space is done in accord with Divine Will and for the good of all concerned." After you are completely done, retrace the circle and thank the guardians and angels of each direction for their aid. This opens the circle and lets the energies manipulated within the circle to flow out into the world.
