Description
The music stopped, ending on a melancholy note."That was beautiful." Belle gasped.
"why are you here?" Cain asked, still facing the piano.
"I'd heard the music and followed it here. It really was Beautiful, Cain." She insisted.
Cain turned to her, a slow, derisive laugh escaped from his lips. "The one beautiful thing youve encoundered, isn't it?"
"I-" Belle began, but she couldn't find a good defence.
"No, I thought not. You're expecting your books and fairy tales. A lavish hall, parties, and dances and masquerades. every night." Cain snapped his fingers and everything he'd just described appeared. "And me, done up in the latest fasions and flowing blond hair. Mayb a more noble name, like Nicholas or Adam."
Even as he spoke, he changed. The only thing that remained the same was his glowing, blue eyes, entreating. They threatened Belle's sanity. She hated the feeling.
"Please stop." She said, retreating a step as her jeans and tee-shirt turned into a beautiful flowing gown.
"One dance?" Cain asked, extending a soft hand and raising a golden brow. "One dance with Prince Adam, it's what you desire, right? That's what's in your heart."
Belle was scared now. Cain was beyond his mild jesting, somehow uncontrolled. "Cain, Stop!" She screamed, covering her ears and squeezing her eyes shut.
The music stopped, and everyone dissapeared. She was safe inside her head. warily, she opened her eyes.
Cain was there, standing where his fictional Prince Adam had been. His hand still outstreched and a pained expression on his face.
"Leave." He said, dropping his arm and casting his eyes to the floor.
Belle looked at him for a moment, then turned to leave.
"Belle, wait." Cain said. She paused and waited for him to continue. "I'm sorry. I know you want to leave, but I just can't let you. I want to let you go, but I'm running out of time. You're my only hope, at least the only hope I care to hold on to. Please don't fight me any more, Belle. Just try to see me as I am." Cain said, the pain in his voice evident. "Belle, I'm sorry."
She dashed from the room.
