     "You're not leaving like that, are you?" my mum asked.
     "The house? Yes." I stated without intrest. "Jennifer's, no."
     Mum scowled at me, but said nothing. As uppossed to me looking like an asian whore as she was, she sure hated my usual plan tee-shirt and jeans ensamble. she went into the kitchen and starrted making a ruckus.
     "Yumi, where's the kettle?" She asked.
     "S'on the stove, Mum." I said not bothering to get up.
     More ruckus. "No, it's not."
     I got up, not very happily, and went to the kitchen. I shoved a finger at the stove. "That's a stove," and then pointed at the kettle, "and that's a kettle. Any questions?"
     Mum gave me a funny look. "I didn't see it, love, don't speak to me like that."
     I actually hadn't meant to be rude, but I told her stove and she didn't look. "Sorry."
     "It's fine, you didn't mean it, I'm sure." she said, fulling the kettle with water. "Do you need a ride to Jennifer's house?"
     "No, Micheal, Jude and I are walking there. S'not that far."
     Mum, shrugged and placed the kettle on the stove. She lit it and left the kitchen, going upstairs.
     I glanced at the time, it was about time to leave. I knew that if I was late again, Jude would probably get mad or something. I leanded on the sink and thought about what I was getting into. Jennifer had only told me to come and who was comming, offering no detail. Even when I asked, she wouldn't tell me. My mum broke my reverie when she thundered back down the stairs.
     "Here," she said, pushing something into my hands. "I hope you won't need them, but still. . . Watch out for those urchins." She winked.
     I didn't need to look to know what she'd given me. I felt the soft rubber ring underneath the plastic wraper. "Mum," I said, breathlessly.
     The way she looked at me, I could guess what my expression was: wide-eyed shock. "What? I'm not telling you to go and have sex, but one night if you get drunk or something. . . "
     "I doubt it, but, er, thanks, I guess."
     "And you've said yourself, you have no idea what's going on tonight."
     As shocked as I was, I realized that she was just trying to protect me. Really it was touching, but a little unnerveing as well. I nodded. "I should be going now."

Micheal and Jude were waiting outside in the parking lot of my apartment complex.
     When Jude saw me, he tapped his wrist. "You're late," he sang.
     "I know, I'm sorry." I said, deciding not to tell him about the condoms my mom had given me.
     He tipped my face towards him with his finger on my chin. He gave me a brief kiss. "Shall we?"
     I nodded. "No one's bothered to tell me what's going on."
     "You'll see."
     I glanced around, looking for Micheal. He was trailing silently behind us. "Micheal, what's this about?"
     Micheal smilled, "I can't tell you that, now can I, Ichigo?"
     "Ugh! And you're supposed to be the honest one." And he'd called me strawberry.

There was no hope in getting them to talk, so I stopped trying. We got to Jennifer's house in no time, anyway. When she opened the door, she yelled, "Happy birthday, Yumi!"
     "My birthday was sunday." I said, dumbstricken. "You lot gave me presents and everything." I glanced inside to see who was there.
     "Well, I wanted you to have a proper party." Jennifer pulled me inside and up the stairs, into her room. "Here, change into these." she chucked a pair of pajamas at me.
     "A pajama party? Haven't we outgrown these?"
     "Yes, but that doesn't mean we can't have fun." She slid out the door, back to the other guests.
