Description      Midnight. That's what she was. Nothing but dark, blinding, comforting night. Unfortunately, she was as blind as she was blinding. It would make things so much easier if she would see herself, me, and us, as we truely were.
But Minuit has other things to worry about. Her family, her room mate, the band, her beloved Jacob. Of course she didn't have time for me. I remember when we were little, but that seems so long ago.
Min and I both slept on the floor. Mum probably wouldn't like that much, but we didn't care. That's how we slept when we were younger, too. She stayed awake as long as she could, but finally fell asleep during Trigun. Me, I stayed awake the entire night, watching her.
The golden light of the morning sun lent her a gilt appearance. I reached a hand out, slowly, with the intent to touch her face; her fluttering eyelids, her straight nose, her elfish jaw, her rosey lips. Instead, I shook her gently.
     "Hey, Min. Minuit, wake up."
She opened one eye and looked at me. "Wasatime?" she asked through a yawn.
     I glanced at the clock. "It's 10:00"
She sat up abruptly. "I told mum I'd be there by 9:00"
"It's just down the street. We'll tell her we slept in."
She looked at me with a pained expression. "You mean to come?"
I shrugged, nonchalant. "If you want me to. If not, I could go find something to do later."
The corners of her mouth twitched, as if there was a private joke that i wasn't supposed to know. "thank you." she said solemnly. She tood and stretched. "Is my toothbrush still here?"
"Yeah, in the bathroom. You should hurry, your mum's not going to wait much longer."
"Yeah, yeah," she threw over her sholder as she left the room, "but that'll spare me a visit, won't it?"

"Mummy! The other boy's won't let me play football with them!" I complained.
"Then play with Minuit, Jayden, she's your age."
     "But, Mummy, she's a girl!"
Mum smiled, amused. "Fine then, you can stay here and talk with me and your aunty." she said, pointing to Minuit's mother.
"bye Mum," I said, already crossing the room to join Minuit in to corner, "Can't chat, I've got people my own age to play with."
I slowed as I approched Minuit. She was holding two dolls. I inhaled deeply, not knowing what I was getting myself into. "whatch doin'?"
"Playing football." she said, regarding me as if it should have been painfully obvious.
"Those are dolls." I noted, returning her look.
She scowled. "Of course they are! But the older boys wouldn't let me play." Minuit's expession softened as she realized my reason for speaking to her. "They wouldn't let you either, would they, Jayden?"
"Nah," I said, plopping down beside her. "But your her, and were friends, right?" I asked sheepishly.
She flushed, diverted her gaze and nodded. "I think we should join the other's game." she said, standing. "C'mon, let's go." she started for the door.
"Hey wait!" I started after her, "What are you doing?"
But she didn't answer. She ripped open the door and plunged into the game, stealing the ball with ease. "Here, Jayden!" she passed it to me and a ran for a goal. she met me there and I faked a pass to her and scored.
"yeah, great job, Jay! Now, they'll have to let us play." She said throwing her arms around me. It was my turn to flush.

After the game, everyone was packed inside the hall. I found Minuit and beckoned her outside.
"Hey, can I tell you something?" I asked, my back to her.
"Yeah, what is it?" she asked, a hint of concern in her voice.
I turned around and gave her a severe look. "You can't tell anyone, okay?"
She flinched a little, but held her ground, "okay."
Slowly, I leaned in towards her. As I got closer, she seemd to understand what I wanted. A crimson flush creeping up her face, she leaned towards me.
Suddenly the door opened and we flew apart. Some teenagers from the party walked past us without a word. Still flushed and panting, Min and I exchanged a nervous laugh.
"Let's go back inside?" I asked, not looking her in the eye.
"Yeah, let's have a dance, or something too." She replied in an over excited voice. My guess she was trying to act as if nothing happened, lighten to mood.
"Yeah, I suppose." I said, stretching carelessly.
     We both laughed freely now.

We "went out" for a time after that, but you couldn't really call it that, because we were ten years old. After that, we never bothered to be anything more than friends. About two years later, Minuit met Jacob. Before that, I had always assumed that she was mine - we never dated any one else, but I was horridly mistaken. It's been five years since then and she hasn't given up on him, nor I on her.
That's why I was going with her to see her family, because any chance I got to show her I cared - even if it went unnoticed - was worth taking.
