Woohoo! Just last night I was saying to myself: I need to learn how to get colors... Thanks so much for the tutorial! It's very helpful, I hope I can put what I learned to use.
I'm wondering, if I were to paint a picture with a bright mood, should I still use a dark background while finding colors? The example paintings in the tutorial have a dark mood, so I can see that works great, but for a brighter mood...?

Indeed, personnaly, when I use a dark background, the colors I use seem vivid and glowing

One thing I just can't do; Colour with Shades. Jsut can't, simply can't, I'm going to learn how to do so and this is going to be very helpful, thank you so much, it's hard to find a good tutorial!
Just curious: I don't actually have a good photo shop, would this work with the 'lightweight' kinds of photoshops? Like Paint.NET or ACD Photoeditor, etc.?

.... I'm a little bit confused. Are you using your background color as the shadow or some other color? Or are you doing something else...? Please explain, I'm lost, and I'm really trying to figure this out.
