I finally finished this one, and i have to say this is the longest time I have ever worked on an art piece. It has become one of my favorites. Anyway this is a request for were he wanted Rarity lassoing Applejack and Rarity's cowgirl attire was more of my idea. While Carrot top is laughing and applebloom is awestruck. I hope you guys like it alot of love went into this. This is my 3rd print for the upcoming con.Picture by me

I love The expression on AJ so much XD. The expression on rarity is just priceless though. That smile is absolutely fabulous. Little applebloom off in the distance is a great little Easter egg to keep the viewer looking further into the picture. The texture in the grass is quite lovely, and same with the texture on the trees. The only thing I'd suggestion to make this piece stronger is the line quality. Some of the lines on the trees further away are a bit shakey, which in a way you can get away with as trees are "organic" and not perfect. When I take a closer look, i can see some spots where you where trying too hard to not get too close to the edge and some spots are a little rough. Like there's some "white spots" on AJ's hair (both her bangs and her mane). One way of avoiding this, is by having the line work on the layer above the color, that way the color is very solid and the coloring isn't "shakey". I also notice the trees in the background are all the same size and are very uniform, which doesn't look very natural. Some trees can be overlapping other trees in a more "random" pattern to make the background look more natural.One last thing is I'd make some of the shadows bolder, particularly where applebloom is as well as RIGHT under rarity and RIGHT under AJ. This drawing is really original, I love how it looks, the composition and the background are great.
The colors are really nice and clean, and very bright. I think this piece is great, especially for the good light you gave.
The details also you were really good, for now, I think it's the picture you've seen one I like, the expressions of the ponies and their eyes, they look great.
The only thing I like about the picture is that the shadows would be best to give it more depth, especially in the area where there are trees and grass, it does not stop being entirely realistic.
Anyway, it's a great picture, really.

I adore this piece of art! The look of the drawing is very creative. I love the details as well. The look on Applejack's face is just priceless! Rarity's expression is entertaining as well. She looks so smug and I love her cowboy attire. I love the little apple bloom in the back, looking so surprised, and Junebug is such a nice little addition to the group. But over all, I think the lighting through the trees makes this picture. It is just amazing how you portrayed the rays of sun. Applejack doesn't seem to like this experience, but her facial expression really gives it off! the way you've reflected the light makes it looks nice and rarity looks so cute!
The apples seem to be tumbling away which looks awesome too, aswell as how you've done the grass.
You are extrememly talented!! The only thing is that Apple Jacks tail is going the wrong way, maybe put it over the rope? The ponies in the background that are giggling are so cute, and you made it so much better with them behind, I love this sooo much, you've done and amazing job and I wish you Good luck!<333

Well, I'm generally opposed to shipping ponies of the same gender with each other, so staying objective will likely pose a bit of a challenge here, but I am a professional (a.deviantart.net/avatars/l/y/l… " alt=" " title="lyingapplejackplz" />), so let us proceed

As always, I shall start with the general concept - while it's a matter of personal preference whether one likes certain pairing or not, the whole idea seems a tad out of place, mostly on Rarity's part, with her taking part in something so "uncooth". It really strikes you right off the bat.
On the other hand this is, undoubtfully, a comedy piece which, with such predicament, does work quite well, making Rarity's ponysona part of the humor. It's a matter of debate if, in the grand scheme of things, such presentation should be considered good or bad, but certainly pushing her farmer look further was the right choice - no point in doing somethig half-heartedly and giving the refined mare a more common attire was a step in the right direction to that end.
Naturally, putting Rarity as a cowpony is certainly something you don't see everyday, even among fandom and while the scene itself leaves the feeling of "been there, saw that", it manages to play a twist on that familiarity. The style itself gives an impression of oil painting or crayons, which is also rare in this day and age, when most people just go for digital work, so it's a refreshing change of pace.
The technique is quite clear, though some things could be improved upon, like the barn in the back - even by using perspective, it seems too small. Another thing is the grass that is a bit smooth, especially with Applejack struggling against the rope, which should rough it up a tad (shading it compensates for this somewhat, but it still feels too "in tact"). Also Applebloom is barely noticable, as she just seems like a spot of red and yellow, her features being nearly undeterminable. And there's the "perfect" look of apples as well - round and constantly red.
Then again, AJ's expression is very well done, clearly showing how she feels about the whole ordeal, as does Rarity's. The dynamic is presented nicely, you didn't even forget of the magical aura surrounding the horn. The primary plane of the piece is done admirably.
As for the most important part of the critique, I must say that I find this piece's impact quite becoming - the humor of the scene is strengthen by Applejack's general reaction (her expression most of all), which in tandem with Rarity, builds a very clear, hilarious image. The tiny details in the back are a welcomed addition, making the pic something more then a simple "ride 'em cowpony", even if they're a tad messy.
Character interactions are nicely done, becoming the center piece of this work and the main starter for the humor; it's technically still and yet you can almost see AJ doing her best to break free, while Rarity gives an all-too-pleased expression at her catch.
Overall there are some minor things that could be improved upon, but the general outcome stands strong. And, when all's said and done, this piece will ALWAYS have one thing going for it - it has Applejack e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w… " width="15" height="15" alt="

I appreciate you putting your bias aside to judge my piece fairly, your critique by far is one of the best I have ever received and it looks like you put your time into really looking at my picture. Not only did you go over the technique but you also went into depth on its overall appeal to the normal viewer, and I must say well done! Hello good sir. This is my 6th critique on Deviantart. Now lets get to it. To start off the shading on this one is pretty well done to be completely honest. Everything looks realistic from the grass to the apples to the background. The overall best thing is Applejack, you got the expression right on. Now time for the down side. Which for this, isn't going to be long. The building may be far away but its too small. Thats just a nit pick but you can improve on that. Overall this is a pretty good piece of artwork. Please take this critique into consideration.

Thank you for the honest critique, Although the buildings size in the background is pretty accurate(its about double the size of the haystack that's pushed forward that's usually 1/4 size when its next to the barn) but since its in front it doubles the 1/4 making it 1/2 for the haystack in comparison to the barn. Anyway I appreciate the critique.

Let me start of by saying that this is a really wonderful piece. My reasons for this is because the art is so soild and what I mean by that is that the art shows the artist put effort into this. My second reason is that the colors are truly wonderful and realy brings this pieceto life. My last reason is that the fandom thatcomes with this always gets fans talking and its something that a lot of fans have always thought of. In conclsion I think this is a wonderful piece and I would buy this if it was a print

The grass itself took around an hour and a half. While the picture as a whole was around hmm....13-14 hours.
As a side note I learned much better way to do grass now thanks to another fellow artist. You'll be able to see it in the next picture that I am working on.

Hmm, well it depends. I usually start off with a wash ( alight spread of the color that I would like the grass to be) from there I give it shadows. Then I add the texture of the grass using the brush tool. Depending on the area and how large it is is how difficult it may be.For example my next picture has a few of weeds and dirt spots along with the grass being more wild. That is easier to do than this one, which is very fixed because it so clean-cut.
I would say its much more tedious than it is difficult. I do run livestreams so if you would like to see it I could always show you on there.

Ahh yes indeed, I've been meaning to comment on this picture for ages now, but sadly just kept having it driven out of my mind for one reason or another. Something that I'm happy to remedy now! This is absolutely adorable dear, and I just love the idea; I know that it was initially a request but still, you did such an incredibly good job with it! All of the ponies' expressions are absolutely perfect, and I simply adore Rarity's pigtails and cowgirl hat... she wears them so well, something that Applejack seems a little too distressed to appreciate fully at the moment! Absolutely charming.

Wow, thank you so much! I have to admit part of me wanted you to see this when I finished it, but I felt like messaging you would seem like I would be forcing it onto you and expecting you to reply. The last thing I want to do is be straining my art on others and making them feel obligated to like it, but i'm really relieved that you enjoy it for what it is.^^ I guess you can say that my creative side came out with this one, due to me having very little to go off of initially.
