Another sketch that I started last week and just fiddled with in my spare time.

About half way thru it started to remind me of another old story that I had involving 3 legendary beasts (a Pheonix, a Dragon, and a nine-tailed Fox) that were locked away for a long time....So the picture ended up going in that direction.

Here is a short little something that I threw together. I hope you enjoy.

Chain the Legend

The old women say this is how legends begin….

The City of Lithian was right at the edge of the forbidden forest. Stories passed on from generation to generation tell of an ancient evil deep within the forest’s depths, lurking and waiting to be set free.

But many no longer truly believe the stories.
They judge them simply to be wives-tales created by the elderly to keep the children from wandering into the forest. Spinning terrifying tales of ferocious beasts that create chaos and destruction wherever they go, and who like to gobble up little children whenever they get the chance.

But children will be children, and despite the tales it has become almost a rite of passage to go into the forest and spend the night within its mystifying depths. Of course, most don’t go far. The terrifying tales, ringing in their ears, keeps them from doing so.

But Tallon was determined to not let such a thing stop him. The twelve year old gathered up his courage and clinging tightly to the sword that his father had given him, he strode beyond the well worn path and plunged further and further into the depths of the forest.

But as night fell his courage began to fail him. The forest became alive with the sounds of twilight. And all the hoots, hollers, and growls of the forest’s inhabitants seemed to intensify with the fleeing of the light, becoming louder and louder.

Tallon was just about to turn back when began to hear a different sound. A soft, melodious voice was calling his name. Curious, Tallon decided to follow the enchanting voice.

Weaving his way thru the vines and the underbrush, he finally stepped into a small clearing where he came to a halt, shocked at what he saw in front of him.

There, in the middle of the clearing, was a small pond unlike any he had ever seen. Though the water was still, the rainbow colors in its depths shifted and swirled as if being churned by some unseen force. The pond’s opal waters gave off a soft light that flooded the area with a beautiful kaleidoscope of color.

And at the center of the pond was a figure.
A young male, who looked only a few years older than Tallon, was standing in the middle of the swirling waters. His arms were chained above his head, bound to an intricate archway of branches that created an almost cathedral like canopy above the clearing. His impossibly long red tresses tumbled down into the water around his waist and his eyes were blindfolded. Looking carefully, it seemed to Tallon that the older boy’s white skin and long red hair were glowing softly with light.

Tallon began to take a tentative step forward when he heard again that soft, sweet voice that called his name.

“Tallon…..Tallon….Do not be afraid, come closer…come closer…”

The boy’s sword fell from his lax fingers and as if in a trance he began to move into the waters and closer to the figure. As he drew even closer the light given off by the older boy intensified, and Tallon absently became aware of the unusual amount of heat that the other was giving off. He was much too hot for a normal human.

But none of that seemed to register with that lyrical voice whispering in his head.

“save me….save me….save me…….”

Without hesitation, Tallon reached up to remove the blindfold.
