‘Beautiful Revolution,’ by Aramadeus (Genre: Illustration/ Propaganda Art)

I don’t really have a so-called ‘Signature Style’ per se. To be more explicit, I have perhaps 12 to 15 or so of them, one for each of the Art Genres I love to the extent that over the years I have taught myself to get inside them sufficiently to be able to produce works in each. Why limit yourself to just one? Never understood that. Here we have a new piece in (to be honest) my least favorite style- Illustration.

I don’t like Illustration for a long list of reasons which I won’t bore you with. Suffice to say, I love Art for its aesthetic qualities, not as a vehicle to influence people to do things that are not in their best interests- like buying stuff they don’t need, or fighting in wars. That said, when I do go to Illustration mode, it is usually (as with this piece ‘Beautiful Revolution,’ with intent to invert the toxic nature of Illustration against itself (Lol).

And so for this work I conceived the narrative set in the not to distant future during which time big nation states have fallen into sufficiently bad financial circumstances such that they hit upon nationalizing their entertainment industries- including music- to claw back funds to keep the trains running on time s to speak. In S.E Asia, the Gov of one country hits the jackpot with their new ‘Official State‘ Girl Group ‘Beautiful Revolution.’ For a few months that is, until the inevitable departure of their lead singer Cassie (centre) for a star studded solo career, much to the disappointment, resentment, jealousy and hatred of the remaining members of ‘Beautiful Revolution,’ all 3 of whom are now out of a gig.

‘Beautiful Revolution’ depicts the group at the height of their short lived career, posing atop a mountain with the world (temporarily) at their feet, surrounded by the apparatus of State control (jets, military personnel etc). Zooming into the group members it’s clearly apparent from their body language and facial expressions that all is not well with ‘Beautiful Revolution.’ Cassie (center) is literally stealing the limelight by pushing the others out of her way to grab center stage, whilst Xin Ru and Rie (left and right) look at her with utter dislike whilst Mai Lin (far right) stares ahead without engaging with any of them.

Later on I realized that this narrative was actually identical to what happens when real autocratic regimes change leaderships, in that when that happens, nobody likes the new guy hahaha. Small world!

This piece took me forever- 3 months to be exact- since it required my over painting practically everything my Ai Assistant generated. In all, over 1500 layers of hand painted work went into this work. Happily it came out looking exactly like a hand painted S.E. Asian propaganda poster (which it sort of is anyway), so all’s good. No Propaganda poster worth its salt can claim authenticity without multiple sub narrative details in the mix, so I've added those to. I'm not going to point out where they are, 'cos you gotta do that yourself. It's part of the deal in this type of Illustration.

‘Beautiful Revolution’ would look standout framed large format on anyone’s wall, and in fact the original is available for purchase for just that purpose (I don’t sell copies), together with all the work files and sub copies (about 35 of them).
