Capricorn (♑︎) is commonly represented in the form of a sea goat: a mythical creature that is half goat, half fish. The constellation is sometimes thought of as Amalthea, the goat who raised the infant Zeus, after his mother, Rhea, saved him from being eaten by his father, Cronos. Others identify Capricorn as the satyr Pan, a god who ruled over forests and woodlands, flocks and shepherds. From the waist down he was a goat and also had the ears and horns of a goat. He escaped from the monster, Typhon, by giving himself a fish’s tail, becoming a sea-goat and diving into a river.

There also seems to be a connection between traditional characterisations of Capricorn and the Sumerian god of wisdom and water, Enki, who also had the head and upper body of a goat and the lower body and tail of a fish.

Capricorn is an Earth Sign, so it is quite interesting that it is depicted as a sea-goat, don't you think?
