I just use any lighter colour, but I always choose a pretty one. it helps alot of you know about body ratios.

well it depends on your coloring....if you want to color in a realistic way, you must understand the behavior of lights and shadows on everything....the shading is very important to....be patient when you color

thanks! that layer is gone now, but I'm not used to actually doing an undersketch so I find it helps if its pretty coloured haha
