i mean, sure the live action Transformer movies arent like 10/10 movies...but they get such a bad rep and given bad reviews (sometimes before the movie even comes out when it came to the sequels) when they really arent that bad. Optimus is still as awesome as ever compared to his animated counterpart and his alternate team of Autobots were pretty cool too...same goes for Megatron and the Decepticons. unlike most reboots (which the live action movies kiiiinda r all things considered), the movies kept true to the original characters' personalities while still keeping things fresh.
in any case, i flipped when i saw Optimus w/ a sword and shield. i squealed way too giddily. Optimus was my introduction to mechs and the like, and i always thought he was super cool! heck very human too when u think about it. hes very wise, caring and noble...your regular gentle giant that cared for his own kind and humans equally, putting their safety before his own. oops, i'm rambling...

i totally feel that. what i really find funny about most of the hate geared towards the movie adaptations, is that they primarily complain it just isnt "G1 enough." yeah, understandably so, that took place in the 80's, this takes place in a modern day setting, so things are gonna be very different. sure there's lots of story arcs and ques from the original source material, but they really can only do so much with 30+ years of history and MULTIPLE other incarnations with their own history and try to condense it into a movie. Dark of the Moon was basically "The Ultimate Doom" from G1, and even Age of Extinction was based on the time period when humans attacked all Transformers in the Marvel comics. Cemetery Wind was based on the group RAAT (Rapid Anti-Robot Assault Team) from the comics. the films do follow the original stories pretty well and most people dont even know it because all they see is another "ruined childhood." i say, yeah, well we grow up, we too have to reboot and become a new adult versions of our kid-selves, so i welcomed seeing Transformers in the movie incarnations. heh, i understand the need to ramble. it feels good to speak your mind and share Β

i dont remember the old 80s Transformers well (i think i have the first season laying around somewhere), but regardless it isnt "ruined childhood" if everything is more or less the same. the screw-up that was Teen Titans Go!, THATS a "ruined childhood" series because it dumbed down and drastically changed all the characters' personalities for the sake of comedy (and not even GOOD comedy at that)

Oh man, agreed. That also counts as Character Assassination! Its such a wide contrast from the source material. I havent seen the original Ben 10, but in comparison, this new reboot is also a heavily watered down version that throws out a chunk of substance from the original. Theres a new rebooting for TMNT thats undoubtedly following the trend it seems. :/

yep, all the rebooted cartoons, whether they were more serious (Transformers) or a mix of both (Ben 10, TMNT, Teen Titans, etc), seemed to be purposely dumbed down and more for comedic purposes rather than to actually, yknow, TEACH something! yea, cartoons r mostly for entertainment, but theres always a few episodes that tackle more serious topics such as grief, bullying and the like

it feels like theyre purposely making cartoons stupider in hopes kids get bored and go outside for a change...that or they just completely gave up on this generation and just feeding this stupid generation even more stupid content to keep them entertained

That is kinda the truth. Actually the real reason (and also why a lot of shows these days are only quick 10-15 minutes long) is becuase of mobile devices being so widely used. Its also why a lot of shows use the flash animation style direction because its meant for the small screen. Its much easier for kids to watch a fast episode while say, on the bus ride to and from school. Its made easily accessible that way. Rebooted shows and even new ones feel like abridged versions of their concepts to get crammed into quick episodes.
