Description
I first learned about the fanfic called "Fallout: Equestria" via one of 's drawings. At first it sounded like matter and antimatter; combining one unrelentingly happy and upbeat universe with one that is just as unrelentingly dark, oppressive and hopeless? Nonetheless I was curious (and a Fallout fan too) so I gave it a glance, and was completely hooked within 2 chapters. By the time I was up to Chapter 18 the muse woke up after all this time and loudly demanded fanart in tribute.I have no idea if Kkat has any presence here on dA or if he/she writes professionally in any way, but damn if this isn't an extremely well-written piece of work. If anybody here happens to have any contact with Kkat, please tell him/her to keep up the awesome work.

The grimdark tag is definitely appropriate. There's quite a lot of violence and blood and cruelty, and of course the overall post-apocalyptic atmosphere (plus the flashback scenes leading up to said apocalypse) is pretty depressing. That said, Littlepip and her companions are all very well-developed characters and endearing in their own ways, and I keep reading because I desperately want to know what happens next, and because I hope there's something that at least resembles a happy ending for all of them.

Are they Isolationist-Magic haulers(Fallout 1-2), a progressive army whom accepts all races in their army for practical reasons and political (Fallout Tactics), or Fallout 3 type?

They are mostly Fallout 1-2 type but have an 'Outcast' group who work for the wasteland, not against it.

At least I can root for the Mid-west Steel Hooves that has Gryphons, Dragons, Ponies and Dogs as members.

Most of them are more interested in protecting tech/magic than they are in protecting lives. Some of them believe they should be helping ponies out instead and that's leading to a civil war now.

Sounds like Fallout Tactics mess where one half (the Mid-Western Brotherhood to be) were interested in gaining more soldiers and sharing the tech with the surrounding villages. Ultimately Council came to a 'No' and sent them off, they crashed and soon formed their own little section of an independent Brotherhood.

There is no nukes in Equestria. I should know, I know basic nuclear physics and Equestria is not known for having radioactive minerals or the tech to process them.

Not for the first time, I wish I had more skill in Illustrator and Flash, a lot more time, and access to a lot of talented people. Perhaps there would be movies at the very least.

I should start reading this fanfic, I hear its good... but its 30+ parts and I fear getting addicted.

It is very good, and it covers the whole emotional spectrum from humorous to horrific to heartbreaking. Once it gets going it will pull you in, so give yourself a healthy time cushion when you decide to start reading.
I was already hooked well before Chapter 18, but a particularly heartwrenching moment in that chapter sealed the deal.
