Description First of all, yes. My hand is dead.

I am EXTREMELY proud of this one... The amount of attention i payed to every detail and nuance really payed off, but yet the time it took was driving me INSANE!

I will be taking a short break from drawing ebil, demented monsters with too much detail bent on eating everyone's brains...

I really would appreciate constructive feedback on this one, guys! please let me know your thoughts such as: Does the excessive detail take away from the pic? Does it need a background? Should i have made the shadows darker? Is there too much slobber? etc...

Enjoy!

EDIT: Thanks so much for the Daily Dev everybody! It really made my day

Jinkies... Your attention to detail is incredible and I love love love the slober, I don't think it takes away from anything at all. But that's just me. The only issue I have is the background with the weird little line that separates the greyish area on the left with the black on the right. I also feel like the lines in the background aren't really adding much, they don't feel as skillful or detail oriented as the rest of the piece...but this is just the opinion of a very novice artist. Otherwise, I effing love this piece; it's pretty horrifying. I know that if the Sharp tooth in the Land Before looked like this I'd probably be a very scarred child.

Well no, hm...urg, I guess I'm kinda conflicted about the background. I definitely like that background is less detailed b/c it definitely makes the picture PoP...but I dunno, I feel like maybe the little detail that is there should have been a little more detailed? Nah I dunno...I'm just kinda rambling, I'm not sure how to say what I mean. *Ignore me* Hahaha

ArdentMind In reply to MangoMiniwheat [2008-06-19 14:04:43 +0000 UTC]

Yeah that's where i got the title from... and yesh... i would've been scared too ^^

The only reason I kept the background much less detailed is to make the dino pop out... but I can soo how that could be unappealing too...

P.S: You give yourself too little credit! I really liked some of the stuff in your gallery

freaken awsome, love all the detail around the mouth and eye

but to answer your question, last time i heard Maya 7.0 was like 7000-10000 dollars, there are different versions, such as Maya Unlimited 7.0 and Maya Complete. I work with Unlimited, but right now i'm trying to get Maya 8.5, its the latest version and the best from what i hear, cause that one has the ability for Next Generation Modeling and allows you to add muscles to the character you build so their skin and joints move appropriately according to their muscle size, and has everything else that the previous version have. Now i forgot the website, but you can buy student versions for about 500 to 1000 dollars. . But theres some sort of agreement saying you cant sell your work or use it to advertise and other stuff like that. Thats why it costs so much i guess, cause your basically buying the rights to use it in anyway you choose.

and to answer your other question, no its yes

Ooooookaaaaaay... That's pretty damn expensive... I don' think I'll be able to afford that program until i have my own steady income...

P.S: Good job answering the question... but I guess the point is you can only say "yes" or "no", so no matter what, you say the wrong thing...

Hi! You wanted some "constructive" feedback so here goes

FIRSTLY i would like to add though, this is an awesome piece of work, so yes, what i am about to say is (i hope) constructive, without giving out to much offence...

Whislt the picture is awesome (and it is) I find the lower Jaw, especially the "right hand side" of it way to fat, large or whatever, Unless i saved teh photo and drew a circle around where i mean, im not sure you will understand, but i am pretty much talking about the backpart of the jaw. It comes out to far, when instead, it should be pretruding in, if that make sense?

Another thing is i believe the tounge (although very well portrade - damn my spelling is bad ) is tooo short, i believe that should be alittle longer...

All in all though, a fantastic drawing, something i would be proud off. "sigh" I wish i bothered to do stuff like this, I was an awesome drawer as a child, i just dont have the patence anymore...Nor the money, I would love a mouse pen for my computer, had one for around a month then it just went crazy an started flying all over the place when i used it (yes, i changed batterys )

Anyway...honiestly? out of 10, i would give this a very very strict 8.5! (and i am not the sort to rate something a pure 10, so, thats good mate )

ArdentMind In reply to Izriul [2008-06-03 04:35:36 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for the feedback. I aimed to make the lower jaw larger than the top... I find that it makes the creature seem more brutish and gives a sense of scale for some odd reason. I can see what you mean, and several others have given the same comment, but i believe that without the jaw, the same "giant killer" effect could not have been portrayed as accurately.

1. I absolutely love this picture. Im a big fan of dinosaurs and the magnificent detail put into this simply obliterates me. I love it.

2. I don't think you need a background it looks like a dinosaur lurking in the shadows. There is enough slobber. its good.

DragaoNegro [2008-05-28 16:31:55 +0000 UTC]

this is amazing! all the details are great! I just think that the down part of the head (err.. sorry for my English...)(i'm talking about the jaw...) should be a little bit smaller.
maybe you could have done the stripes, muscles, in the mouth less visible, specially on the corner of it (oh, crap! i swear I'm gonna study some anatomy in English to say the right names...)

hm, the inferior lip (yeah, always in the 'down part' of the mouth), could be a little bigger, don't you think? at least more attached to the teeth, since the mouth is pretty much opened...

well, the eye is amazing and all his skin is so fucking well done even if you could have given a little more contrast to the shadows...

gonna check the rest of your gallery... [sorry for saying so much...]

Sinew. That's the one word that comes to mind when looking at this. I think this picture is the definition of sinew. But that's definitely a good thing--the detail and ferociousness of it is wonderful. Maaaaaaybee a bit much drool, but otherwise a success. You were right not to put in a background because that would have detracted from the detailed subject.

Great job; definite fav.

I think some terrified little squirrel or something should be in the bottom left corner, and the white stuff next to the jaw and nostrils seems off, is it a blur?

Other than that its amazing

much better than I can draw...i draw stick figures
