I'm trying this out, but I'm curious what was your paint brush settings or what paint brush did you use for the shadow and ambient occlusion? Or what was the layer mode?

Ardinaryas In reply to 02-B [2014-04-17 18:02:33 +0000 UTC]

Hi, I usually used a 20-30% opacity brush with a 100% flow. The layer mode is multiply

Is the AO created in a separate layer then merged with the shadow layer?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ardinaryas In reply to xShinku [2014-04-10 17:07:28 +0000 UTC]

yes, the AO layer should be separated for better control. but it's up to you if you want it to be combine with shadow layer

xShinku In reply to Ardinaryas [2014-04-10 17:13:42 +0000 UTC]

Okay! Thank you! And one more thing! When you did the AO Layer, did you block the character in white agin then start paint in the darkest areas?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ardinaryas In reply to xShinku [2014-04-10 17:31:56 +0000 UTC]

yes, I did block the character with the light grey color and I start the AO painting there.
Good luck!

ComicGoals In reply to ??? [2014-04-09 14:17:55 +0000 UTC]

I still don't quite understand what ambient occlusion is

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ardinaryas In reply to ComicGoals [2014-04-10 17:08:49 +0000 UTC]

Well, ambient occlusion is something like a shadow that is created in the very edges of objects that doesnt get any lighting. So that shadow will create a volume to make an object looks 3 dimensional.
Hope it can answer your question

mattchew789 In reply to ManishaChan [2014-04-03 04:19:11 +0000 UTC]

AO is Ambient Occlusion, It is used a lot in the 3d work flow. But it is funny to see it implemented in a 2d work, interesting!

I'm sorry if anyone else has already asked, but what is AO??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ardinaryas In reply to MukuBooka [2014-03-14 05:05:09 +0000 UTC]

Hi,AO is a short for Ambient Occlusion
according to wiki, "In computer graphics, ambient occlusion is used to represent how exposed each point in a scene is to ambient lighting ."
for the image samples of Ambient Occlusion, u can easily find it in google
hope it helps
