I always find it funny and ironic how Stormcloaks want 'liberate' themselves from the Empire, yet it was Talos himself who created it.

Is kind of ironic that the Empire wants to banish the image of it's own creator.

Banish? Never, worship him?..yea, they HAD to ban that or the rest of the Empire would be steamrolled by elves.
Still what one believe is private matter, more than 90% of imperials still believe in Thalos, just in secrecy.
I'd say they had little choice for this matter. They really needed time to recover after Oblivion crisis and then the War itself.
I still believe mankind's only hope is being united. Then they can repel and push back Thalmor menace. Ulfric's rebellion itself just weakening Empire further, and if it's successful, then they are just easy prey for elves what goes for classic tactic: divide and conquer.
Also there's the Dragonborn, he or she should live up to that title and unite the Tamriel once more just like Tiber Septim himself.
