Wow she is only 58 #'s here. I was guessing that Jane use to be a tall thin 5' 10" 115 #'s, and now is at 58 #'s losing about half her weight =50%. So by my math, i figure her to be about 2'11" tall now at the same Body Fat like 10%. I went to high school with a tinny tiny skinny sweetheart of a girl named Pamela who had a terminal illness, & only grew up to 30" tall at 38 pounds. She loved school, & was smart, but died before she could graduate, she was only 16 i think. She actually lived longer than her Doctors expected as i, & many others tried hard to keep her tiny tummy full with food. I remember it was 3 to 4 oz.'s of fruit every 15 minutes while at school.

I wonder if the behavior of Maggie's reduction computer is not as predictable as it seems to be?

Jane's orignal size is 5' 8", 117 lbs.

After a 75% reduction to Jane, Maggie says Jane's new size is 4' 0", 58 lbs.

I might be mistaken, but I think a 75% reduction to Jane would make her new size be 4' 3", 49 lbs. [0.75 x 68 = 51 in. (4' 3") and (0.75^3) x 117 = 49.3 lbs.]

Thus, after the computer performs a 75% reduction, Jane is shorter by 3" and heavier by 9 lbs. than expected.

Perhaps the reduction computer's unpredictably might manifest itself in other ways during the course of the story, e.g., concentrating the reduction effect on particular body parts or clothing items, or switching its reduction target between various animate or inanimate objects.
