Description
VIDEO! [link]Just a quick think thrown together to show off the map. Again, I have a problem making things simple, so animated some Twilight in as well. Been a little bit since I actually worked in SFM, so didn't want to get rusty. This picture is not refined like some of the others. I just smoothed some textures and sent it in.
Thanks to for pointing out the awesome music in a comment to give me the idea for the animating part. ^^

BIG thanks to GunGryphon for some amazing modeling work (has done the flower pots so far). Check out his DA for more awesome!
Some elements used are from the Canterlot War Games map (pillars, alicorn statues, carpet texture):

Everytime I see this, I get the biggest Zelda vibe, like you see this and the music that was used in the video, made me think of Temple of Time. I doubt anyone else would get a vibe like that but that is just me.

argodaemon , Could you link me to a comprehensive tutorial on map creation? I'd love to read the basics to get a starting point idea. Thanks!Β

I would, if I knew of one lol. Β I used the Valve Wiki for anything I was confused on. Β Otherwise, I just tinkered until I figured stuff out. =/

Will this map be downloadable when it's finally done?

It is my goal. Unsure of when, though. Hammer made me rage-quit working on it for a while. The base is almost done. Just refining after that.

OHMYGOD! That is so good! Don't mind my digital drawings...those are horrible! My traditional ones are better... But...what animation program do you use? I've been trying to find a good one, but the ones I see aren't very good! You will be my hero I'd you tell me! I've been wanting to animate for 2 years now!!!!

All of it was done in Source FilmMaker. It is a free download if you have Steam. [link]

How do you plan to work out the skybox outside the windows by the end? Are you going to try and add some skyline of the Canterlot city/castle, or just provide blank space?
At the least, I feel something should be done about seeing the boxlike-form of the map's exterior from different ends of the hall windows.

Outside is still up in the air. I wanted to have a garden immediately outside with a hedge wall, to block view. Don't know about past that. Will focus on one thing at a time and hope for the best. For my purposes, it does not matter all that much, so may add it just at the very end.

When this map is out, could you give the dmx for this video out? Just have an idea.
Whatever you want is fine.
This looks great.

Do you want me to save the current animation for just Twilight as a dmx on its own? I can put up a link for it if you want to mess around with it. Can be loaded in any map that way.

That'd work! Only if that's fine with you.
I'll wait till the finished map until I do anything.

Added the file to the description. Checked and should be able to load it on any Nahka model with no issue, though it is preferred on a winged pony.

heeey, you used my walk cycle! how was it btw? and do you have the animation file for the changes you did and what did you change? XD

argodaemon In reply to JayriAvieock [2013-05-20 06:44:30 +0000 UTC]
There is a bit of a slide noticable in the walk, but I liked the overall feel of it. At the angle of the video, the slide is hard to notice, so it is why I didn't care. ^^
I mainly just slowed down the walk speed, added some movement to the closed wings, and reduced the tail swing (so it better fit the slower speed). That and a bit at the start to aid in transition from stationary to movement. Due to the speed change, I would have to compress it again to get it back to a 1 second cycle. I normally keep dummy models on a scene as references for cycles, but accidentally removed that one. >.< Will see what I can do.

I'm actually working on a shower version of that walk cycle. I'm trying to do it to 1.25 second cycle or 1.5 second.
what do you mean a sliding in the walk cycle?

Certainly not one for subtlety. XD
Looks incredible so far. Love the mesh across the arch further down the hall. Hadn't noticed that before. Great job, as always.

Almost exactly 2 weeks. I had no idea how to use Hammer before that, so it has been a heavy learning process as well. A LOT of trial and error. There was 2 days straight spent just optimizing because of some noob mistakes that caused the file to not render. Almost gave up... almost. ^^

Stuff like this is never easy and to do it in 2 weeks is pretty good, I cant work that fast.

I tend to learn really fast, but burn out and lose motivation because of it. This community has helped keep me motivated. Normally, I would have quit a long time ago.
