Description TUTORIAL LINK: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShpZT8…

Particles are immensely confusing, especially when just starting to learn how they work.  Their usefulness can not be overlooked, though, so wanted to at least share this bit on how to use them to build complicated scenes with little work.

Everything in the above picture was created in the deserttest2 map using particles except Pinkie Pie and the light.  It took me about 5 minutes to build the forest once the particles were done.

I learned to do particles through getting the basics from Zachariah Scott (links below) and then playing with existing particles to see what happens.

This is a basic version of the particle system, using TF2 trees (due to it not requiring outside resources). It will spam 10 trees in a small area. Modify to your liking.

I need a map for the Everfree forest, where can I find one?

There isn't really any maps out there for such. You best bet is to just make one yourself.

Good tutorial, I'm just getting a bit tired of ponies everywhere in this group, I'm not one of those "Anti-Bronies/pegasisters all must burn" kinda guys, just wondering why over half the tutorials have ponies on them

Because I like ponies. ^^ I find that the brony community in general likes to be helpful, so may be why they make more tutorials as well.

It's an interesting thought, I watched a few episodes of the show, because  I'd hate to be thought as, as a closed-minded person and the humour was quite good in places, It's one of those shows I wouldn't seek out on television, but I might watch it if my fav shows weren't on and that was. Also, I'd like to help out on this community as much as possible, but my experience is really only in Posters though :I Check my account to see them (I made one's before this account, but only one's I made AFTER I made the account goes there)

it probably isn't it but are these the tree and grass models that you use in sfm?

I have those models, but the main ones I use were downloaded and created by an outside source.

What do you have for a basic map?

I use either the void map or this map for just about everything I make.

hey argodaemon could you upload the tree and grass models somewhere, sfmbox no longer works.

argodaemon In reply to Kengo19 [2013-12-15 05:12:47 +0000 UTC]

It would require me digging through all my files to pick out all the foliages models and textures.  The pack should be elsewhere, I am just not sure where.

RWDash In reply to argodaemon [2014-05-27 23:02:47 +0000 UTC]

All the places I downloaded mine from are no longer up, so I can't help you too much.

It's really true. I've spent days now searching all over the internet, and the only trees and grass I've found are very very poor quality compared to what you showcase in the video :/ It's all gone... and you're the only person I know who can give the great material to us. Please, I beg you, upload it somewhere so we can download it All I want is some decent tree and grass models Pleeeasseee!...

Okay, I found a way to get them for download. I will have something up for such (hopefully) soon.

That's probably the most important piece of information about SFM you've ever given me through you tutorials.

This may sound strange, but could your next tutorial be on how you record SFM for these tutorials?

argodaemon In reply to Longsword97 [2013-12-03 22:17:24 +0000 UTC]

I use Open Broadcaster for recording my screen, Audacity for cleaning up the audio, and compile/encode in Adobe Premiere CC. That is about it lol.

For a second, I thought Pinkie was humping that tree.
My line of thoughts weren't helped by DrDick's comment at all.

If you had the model, I guess you could make a forest of them.  Would be interesting to see on a windy day.
