Sequel to Collector197's Contest
Jamie launched himself at his foe, knocking both him and Dr. Allen to the floor as they each fought to gain the upper hand on the other. In the back of his mind, the young superhero could still see the image of his friend trapped within the lab. It wasn't just his own freedom on the line, he had to get Toby out of there.
While the younger man's thoughts were preoccupied, Dr. Allen took advantage of the distraction his captive son brought and sent his fist crashing through the hero's jaws. Caught off guard, Jamie couldn't dodge in time before the madman's hands were wrapped around his throat and squeezing.
"Insolent little...I don't care what the Emporer says, you're too big a thorn in my side to leave alive." Dr. Allen growled, tightening his grip so hard that Jamie could practically feel bruises forming.
From inside the cylindrical glass tube, Toby still struggled. Even if he hadn't been trapped in yet another one of his father's cruel experiments, with his hands restrained behind his back as they were there was nothing he could do from his vantage point. He wasn't completely helpless though. If not anything else, Tobias Allen was a very, VERY clever young man.
'If I can just get this off...' the younger Allen thought, violently shaking his head in an effort to loosen the mask that was allowing him to breathe.
Dr. Allen did not love his son. That was a fact that Toby had grown to accept. However, there was no way the mad doctor would allow eighteen years of precious time and intensive experimentation go to waste. That was what Toby was banking on as he managed to dislodge the mask from his face, cutting off his own oxygen supply just as Jamie was starting to see black spots on his own vision.
Having noticed his son's actions, Dr. Allen launched himself toward the glass container where he had imprisoned the former. "What the hell are you doing?!" he roared, frantically keying into a control panel and causing the liquid from within the tube to begin draining away. "Stupid stupid child!" the crooked doctor growled at his only son, who sank to the bottom of the container as the strange fluid he had been preserved in drained out.
Toby coughed, glaring daggers into his father as he twisted and thrashed against the binds keeping his hands trapped behind his back "Don't...cough don't call me child...I'm not your child..." the young genius spat. He glanced over at his friend, the hero who had saved him from his father's evil experimentation once before. Jamie Wise had been able to start gasping for air as soon as Dr. Allen had let go, and was attempting to recover enough to get the drop on the bastard once again.
Trying to help his friend by keeping his father distracted, Toby kept hurling insults at the disgrace of a scientist. "What was that I heard about not caring about what the Emporer says? Sounds pretty treasonous for a senior member of the Cartelin Empire!" the brunette boy shouted.
Immediately the doctor blanched "I-I didn't mean it like-"
"Like what? You didn't mean that you would go over the Emporer's authority yourself to deal with a superhero when you know he's the one who calls the shots around here?!"
'Come on Jamie, hurry up!' Toby thought frantically as he struggled to keep his father's attention. Luckily, although perhaps more like UN-luckily for him, he had fully enraged his cruel father. Dr. Allen punched in the keycode to open Toby's glass prison, grabbing his son by the scruff of his shirt and leaning forward to sneer in his face,
"You manage to escape once and now you think you can disrespect me like that?! When I'm done with you you'll wish you never left this pla- urk!"
In the middle of his rantings the doctor was too infuriated to notice Jamie recover enough to grab a heavy metal prototype weapon, slamming it onto the doctor's head hard enough to knock him out cold.
"Tobs! Let's go!" Jamie cried, maneuvering around Dr. Allen's now-unconcious body and gingerly helping his friend out of his prison, where he cut away the bindings around the smaller boy's wrists. "You okay? Hurt anywhere?"
Toby rubbed his sore arms and gave his friend and incredulous look "Shouldn't I be asking YOU that?! Take a look at your neck!" he cried, pointing to the already-forming bruises around the young hero's collarbone.
Jamie just shrugged his friend off, "I'll be fine, do the whole 'superhero' thing for as long as I have and you get used to the danger. It'll heal quickly anyway," he reassured his friend, "let's just get out of here before he wakes up. You know a shortcut away from this place right? We should get back to the restaurant ASAP."
Toby spared a glance to the underground laboratory where he had been trapped in for most of his life. Eighteen years of cruelty that ultimately granted him the genius-level mental capacity he was able to use today to help his friends in their fight against the Cartelin Empire.
He didn't spare his father a single glance.
"Yeah...c'mon, it's this way."
