The protoss live on sunlight... they don't eat.
They also communicate by telepathy.

Well I know that now, but why cravings if they can live off sunlight or whatever Nerazim feed off of (they lived on a world that lad little light)

Well, these cravings are not accurate lore-wise since they don't eat at all when they're adults.
But from what I know, the Protoss can live off any source of light (Moonlight in case of the Nerazim because it's just weaker reflected sunlight).
From some information I have gathered, I found that the Protoss did give birth in their ancient times during the eon of strife and before they had such advanced technology.
I will be glad to tell you everything I know about that but I need to know how much do you know about the lore so I know what things to explain first.
