I needed to draw more Pierre. this was really one of the first times that I've tried working with squash and stretch elements in his expression, so it was pretty tricky. However, I feel like I understand his facial structure enough to do that now! :'D---

seriously! I've always loved drawing expressions. body expressions though? not so much. haha
I kinda kept in mind the fact that most animators will work with certain facial expressions when working on a character - mainly using the "ah," "oo," and "ee" sounds for the mouth shapes, and then just exaggerating them greatly. Maybe someday I'll be able to do all of that! ;u;

I used to dabble in rudimentary animation back when Flipnote Hatena was a thing. It's really hard, but pretty fun if you know what you're doing. :'D

I can't remember if I asked this question before, but do you use reference for expressions, or do you draw them out of your head? Because I want to learn how to do awesome expressions too :3
Also, what do you mean by "squash and stretch elements"? Is that a function in digital software?

no I rarely ever think to use reference when drawing expressions. idk why. I just can picture certain faces clearly and those are the ones I sketch out! But I think it would be good to actually look up expressions for reference if you wanna practice with them!
The two expressions on the top left and top middle are examples of squash and stretch. It's a term used in art and animation a lot as a way of giving extreme movement to an object. Think of it like a bouncing ball in slow motion - how it flattens when it hits the floor, and then stretches as it bounces off the floor. Kinda like that.

idk I just kept some various concept art that I've seen over the years in the back of my mind as I drew, and hoped that it kinda came out similarly. I tend to try and stay away from reference as much as possible because I'm really really good at mimicking exactly what I see.
It is tricky, and sometimes I can't come up with this sort of thing. That's why it's such a big deal for me when I do draw expressions like this! :'D

Yeah I see what you mean! I use reference if I need to get a pose right. But I try to make expressions from my own head. It's tricky, but there are so many expressions you could search for that it's hard to find a specific one.

if anything, I've always hoped that my art would inspire others to try their hardest! so when i see people doubting their talent, I want to make sure that they know they're doing fine!
