Requested by , It's The Misty Mermaid, One of The Many Things I like about Misty from Pokemon, and a rather big thing most people remember most about her.And in This Scene, Misty needs to get air, because she is still human, and thanks to technology that you put over your mouth, you get breath from this machine... Somehow. They do Exist, just unsure how.

There are rebreathers which technically re-oxygenate the air and extract the CO² in a chemical process. But sadly those devices aren't that small yet (they have a far better time vs size ratio compared to traditional gear however)... xD

this is my theory: the part of the rebreather where the mouthpeice is has a filter that allows only the carbon from CO2 to escape. it trams the oxygen and sends it to the small tanks to refil them so you can REbreathe your air. the small tanks may also contain more air because of the way that rebreathers are used(being constantly thrown around) and because this prosess may not be perfect
