Thanks, Arisuonpaa! I have absolutely no concept of composition; this is a great tutorial--with your really awesome paintings showing the rules--on how it's done.
Will practice using this.

Thanks again!

But would it be OK to still have the full picture detailed?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

arisuonpaa In reply to pocketalia [2013-06-01 04:35:16 +0000 UTC]

I suppose, if you use other means to contrast the focal points.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pocketalia In reply to arisuonpaa [2013-06-01 08:48:26 +0000 UTC]

Such as, if you were doing a landscape of an urban area, making the primary point slightly in front of everything else and not quite fitting in with the scenery?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

arisuonpaa In reply to pocketalia [2013-06-01 10:07:23 +0000 UTC]

That should work

Maltakreuz [2013-05-26 19:29:52 +0000 UTC]

Does the "dead center" rule works for drawings with a clear subject? Not a landscape, just a drawing of animal/human/an object?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

arisuonpaa In reply to Maltakreuz [2013-05-27 04:02:53 +0000 UTC]

Yes it should, except maybe when painting icons which has totally different rules

In a lot of my practice I had to re-teach myself concepts like these. Even though I knew it in my head, it didn't always click. It's always good to see others make tutorials of the fundamentals.

Thanks for the llama and the tute. I've heard the rule of thirds before but this is the first time I've heard about placing points of interst at the intersections. Seems obvious now that I think about it, but it took someone else to point it out so thank you!
