Take a look at this picture . It's an X-ray shot of a 1911 type pistol (often known as the "Colt .45").
I assume you want the pistol to have a moving slide? Look at this page . Note how the bottom of the slide moves back into the frame.
The pistol pictured simply wouldn't work. The slide can't move.

i believe that the slide would move from the middle of the slide, the top part that you say would not work is fixed with the barrel.
