Description
The most prevalent character in my gallery needs a description, so here it is:The days of grabbing your gear and braving a perilous dungeon have long since passed in the world of Feldoria. Gone are the Questers of yesteryear. The uncharted realms of old have all been scoured and gutted. The great monsters of the deep have all been slain. Treasures were won, legends were born, and the grandest tales of heroism were chronicled for the last time.
Today, Questers represent the more destitute of Feldorians, particularly in the human-occupied region of Homelands. It a last resort for many citizens, who will risk life and limb to keep themselves and their families fed. To combat the rise of questing-related fatalities, the practice has been outlawed. Even the term "Quester" is uttered with contempt.
Yet even the smallest glimmer of glory is enough to bring some closest adventurers out of their mundane jobs and into an uncertain future. One such adventurer is Bux Blaylock.
Bux is 48 years old, with an ex-wife, a daughter, two bad knees, a curiously high susceptibility to trench foot, and has always dreamt of becoming a hero. He enrolled in the Freeborn Legion at the age of seventeen, but was soon deemed unfit for combat after an explosion resulted in severe inner ear damage (labyrinthitis). He previously worked as a custodial engineer/latrine specialist (janitor) with the Legion, becoming the most lovable loser among the soldiers.
These days you can find him scouring dungeons in vain with his fellow outcasts Frances Wheatley and Marven McClode. He wears rented armour because he hasn't quite earned enough to buy his own set. He still carries his trusty latrine shovel, which as it turns out is a perfectly suitable tool for excavating subterranean domains.

I will almost always root for a hero who fights with a shovel.

Nice. I'm really loving the development of Bux. The armour rental is a nice touch.

Armen, I really digging his armor.
You can just look at him and tell he's been through some things that have only hardened him for the better.

It certainly has been riddled with injuries. But I think it's the lack of excitement that has been ailing him.
Feel any different about the character now that you know something?

It's fitting.
You're taking your character in a different direction and telling a story most people don't bother telling.

Bux is one bad mutha!
Is he a character from a series you work on, or is he just a for fun type character?

He is wicked cool. I can't tell you enough.
What's the series? You want to make a comic, a cartoon, a book?

Thanks dude, I appreciate the encouragement.
To be honest I'm up in the air about how Bux's story will be told. I originally envisioned a novel, but I'm not sure if that is the best vehicle.

Maybe a chapter-based web-novel with one or two of your kickass illustrations to accompany each post?

Yeah, I also thought of that. But then I'd have to build a site. Which I wouldn't be opposed to, but like I said, I'm up in the air about a lot of it.
Would I draw a scene or something? What kind of image do you think would accompany it best?

You could always start with a Blogspot or Tumblr page. Or some other free, easy layout thing.
You could do like the old adventure stories (Hardy Boys, Green Hornet) and have kind of a smattering. Sometimes it would just be a character doing something from the story, sometimes it might be two characters interacting, all with or without background. Just whatever action you most wanted to show, and only showing background or setting when you really want to steer the reader's imagination.

Well... I don't have a lot of examples. I think the best I've got for you are some illustrations I ripped out of an old star trek chapter book from back in the day: [link]
Ignore the offensive captions-- the idea is that the illustrations just guide the reader along. Showing something that the reader may think 'Man, I'd love to see that!'
And the backgrounds aren't as important in these old single color pressings, but I think it could work for your style as well. The detail is on the characters (or whatever the focus of the drawing is) and the background is only there to display a unique setting, frame the action, or isn't there at all!

I sure do! 515comics.com is my hub site- my friends and I post our updates there, and Nextuus.com houses my comic.
Also-- I freaking love the info you added! I want to see this story!
