Considering the use of the reference, I think it helped to give you a general idea for the pose where you could take it from there. She seems tired, which does tie into the theme and title of the picture. I like the symbolism of the picture manifested as an actual creature or demon. Its sort of spooky and unsettling, but on the symbolic level, it can represent something she needs to deal with personally. Good job.

If I didn't use photo refs, I'd be lost. Great work! I love the play with the lighting - very nice. Ha, and that's an awesome skirt. I think knowing that that thing is wandering around in the woods would creep me out...

I was surprised how easy - in terms of plotting out the scene - having references made it. And I figured because the scene was so glum I should throw in a fun skirt!

Yeah refs really bring your work to a higher level of quality. Just make sure that when you use a ref that you don't just copy the figure; learn from it.
My main crit on this is pretty simple - you put a lot of work into your girlie here, and then you have all this other stuff that's really simple and doesn't have as much attention in it. So I would suggest you cut out some of the stuff that isn't really adding to the piece. I would crop off the left section starting with that reddish tree, move your dark right-most branch down a little and cut off a slim bit on the top and bottom. This would pull your composition together a little and the viewer focus on what really counts.
And btw, way to book it! You're doing like a piece a day? It takes me at least a week to finsih one img :/ Anyway, keep it up!

Well, it kicks ass. Nice use of atmospheric shading with the background to give the pic a sense of depth. Though I might suggest darkening that patch between the girl and the creature because it's rather bright and breaks up the dark mood of that part of the picture. Your choice of colors really picks out the important part of the picture well.
