Β I think it's really weird how people are so amazed by this...it makes me really worry for peoples understanding of anatomy more so than their perception of things. I agree with whoever below me said, if you cropped the images a little more to get rid of the obvious anatomical giveaways (clavicles up) and made the woman's waist look broadened to mimic shoulders...then I could see the confusion.
As is I think it's interesting. I'm not sure what you were specifically trying to get across, but it's an interesting image if nothing else. I do also enjoy the lighting.

I got the second photo right away. But I'm so used to seeing ridiculous, badly Photoshopped photos of women's waists and breasts, and butts on this sight I automatically thought the first one was simply Photoshopped. I know what a real waist looks like and what a real neck looks like, I made this false connection out of habit.

I disagree. I respect your opinion, but I think that the image was meant to be just "off". Like you'll glance at it and be fooled, and then the interesting part would be discovering what it actually is. If the image was changed as you suggested, it wouldn't be an interesting and thought-provoking image (which is what we all aspire to create, no?).

I have no problem with you disagreeing with me, so I hope you don't mind that I disagree with you. No, I don't think the image is at all thought-provoking as it is, nor would I think it would be thought-provoking otherwise really. I also didn't suggest that the changes I stated actually be made, I stated that if that's how the image was I would then understand people's confusion/awe over the image.
Even glancing at the photo set I realized it's a waist chain on someone with an oddly designed skirt-esque bit of clothe and the left is of someone's chest and a thong. The comparison of breast to butt doesn't exactly seem like an amazing out of the box thought that should impress so many people.

I see what you're saying. I suppose the shallow end of the debate is that indeed, it is just a butt and a pair of breasts, and the image may not say more than that to some people (actually now that you've mentioned it I'm starting to see this side of it more and more).Β
However, I think that there is still an element of art to this through the way the medium of photography is used. It's less of a profound message than just an insight to how photography (or art in general) can change perception just by the simple techniques naturally used (in this case, calculated cropping).

As I originally stated about the photo itself, I think it's interesting...I do also enjoy the lighting.
I am not arguing, at all, that the photo set isn't artistic in one way or another. My very simple original statement was my awe directed more at the comments being left than the photo set itself.

Why is it when I point out my original statements to people they assume that I am not having a discussion with them. That's like a scientist trying to give facts during a debate and the other person getting upset that a fact was listed. I'm not arguing with you, and I in no way thought my clarification made our discussion void all of a sudden.
