Check out my video tutorial:www.youtube.com/watch?v=xphWk2β¦
__________________________________________
Requested by a lot of people I created a historical map tutorial for Photoshop.
I had to learn most of this by myself and you can correct me if you know an easier way for a step.
Some techniques might be a bit difficult for people who never or rarely use Photoshop, but I really
tried to explain as much as possible in detail.
If something is very unclear write me a comment or note.
Someone told me in the comments it might be even better to trace the lines with a bright colour like
white or yellow, do as u like!
When you tested the tutorial I would like to see your result
I am just curious if it is useful for others.
It is a tutorial of this map:

Interesting tutorial. One point of advice for other readers. When tracing lines, I prefer to start with a bright colour (I usually use yellow). This helps to see where you have been. When I am done, I replace this bright colour with the actual colour I want.

Hello Arminius, I'm f1nalstand (remember me?). Could you please help me out? I've been trying to follow along your tutorial however I've run into a problem: I cannot seem to recreate the cities I'm able to create the black circle and fill it with white, however I cannot recreate the dot in the circle. Here is an image of it so far, do you see anything wrong?

Hi!
Mh let me think. Two things are possible. The size is wrong of the dot (6 px) or
your layer is still a shape and not rasterized and it doesnΒ΄t overtake effects.
Try to rightclick on the layer and rasterize it.
If that doesnΒ΄t work we can do a quick skypecall^^

Thanks for the quick response! I was able to fix it by setting the inner glow choke to 50% and the size to 4 px. However, I am having issues following your instructions on states: I cannot seem to get either method to work (my results is the imgur image below). Perhaps you can readd me on skype so I can ask you a couple more questions? It would be greatly appreciated!

There is a great collection on wikipedia, commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Maiβ¦
Just search for stuff like map, germany map, europe etc
or go to the page of David Rumsay:

Thanks, and are lakes on the same layer as rivers?
π: 0 β©: 1
Arminius1871 In reply to KingTorrhenStark [2016-07-23 19:37:19 +0000 UTC]
I made an extra layer for them, because when you want a dark blue contour
around the lake, you usually donΒ΄t want them around the rivers too,
so you must do separate layers^^

Aww yesss. It's enlightening to see how you do things. I so far I only have the knowledge that I discovered myself and what I had to find on the internet. Thanks for this!
However, open source master race . Inkscape will always be superior >: ) you sellout.
Btw, have you seen this video of colour footage of Berlin around the beginning of the 20th century?

Sad, what happened German and European cities. Even though we were in both world wars, Australia is so isolated that no considers attacking us (ok well, there was that one time when Imperial Japanese aircraft bombed Darwin, but that was an exception). I've seen articles that evaluate which countries would be the safest if a WW3 broke out, and the answer is always #1 NZ and #2 Aus. Unless its a nuclear war, the we're all f*cked. But out of the rubble that was created by WW2, cities rose back up. That's why some cities have such modern buildings (modern-style bridges, skyscrapers, shopping centers). Do you prefer modern buildings or traditional ones?
Have you seen this colorized photo?

Indeed, and I hate the Nazis for being the main cause of all that.
Then I know where to go if ww 3. is coming XD I am sure Europa would be a battlefield
if it breaks out, but at least I can go to the Alps :/
I love both, historical and modern building but...the modern must be really beautiful,
not just a grey communist cube, as they were created a lot in the 60s and 70s.
Looks great did make it?
Also do you have skype?

Tullamareena In reply to Arminius1871 [2016-07-18 10:06:08 +0000 UTC]
Yeah go to the top of Jungfraujoch .Β The communist cubes are an insult to European cities. Budapest has plenty, almost all of them are grey. The government is promising to paint them coloured, but they've been promising that for a long time now.
No I didn't make that. But apparently its not that difficult to colourise old photos. I'm planning on trying it soon. I have skype. I'll send my name over on a PM so you can add me
