Then look at the newly rebuilt Berlin castle. Modern concrete inside to make it safe,
historical facade outside. A compromise that makes everyone happy, I see no problem here.
And I don't think you can compare it to a car. The facades only purpose is a beautiful look,
so it doesn't matter what is inside. Beauty itself is a function too btw. people want it.
There is even a cool video from Kurzgesagt about beauty.

Aye, sometimes it sickens me to see cities dominated by drab & generic glass skyscrapers.
Signs of the morality of the times, I suppose.

Its is indeed very bad; especially considering even the '' President '' of the State admitted that 'They betrayed their own City'
Modernism and extreme corruption has a very bad toll on İstanbul
Thank you so much ! I missed my Deviantart friends like you and its good to be back

Nothing against experimenting, but so far traditional is the best!
On the outside of course. I have nothing against flowing water.

pity they've been busy destroying alot of our traditional building, especially during that boom or they had "accidents" because they had a preservation order on them

To think I watched a lecture by TED from this young strapping architect thinking he would severely burn modern abominations. It started out well but then he said he wanted to make a monument for all the blacks that were lynched in the US and it looks horrible.

The city completely loses its uniqueness with buildings like this ... I mean, they have them everywhere.

No also capitalism created ugly buildings, 98% of post war architecture is cancer.
How can beauty be useless, aesthetic towns and alleys generate tons of tourism and people
that feel good. At first the communists created even one good street, the Stalin-Allee with
neo-classicistic style. Then they switched to uglyness.

East Germany was completely destroyed after war, no Marshall plan and war reparations were not forgiven in east. You should know that better than me. It was a different time, constructions were cheap and functional.

Great! I love classic architecture wherever it comes from. We shouldn't call it "historical" though, because it implies that it isn't used anymore. There are still building being built in these styles in Germany.

sowieso.

Personally, I find it quite sad that such sights should be erased from the "modern"urban landscape.
Especially, the unwillingness to try and preserve some of the old charm when rebuilding buildings that had been destroyed is a pity.
(I can mostly only speak for cities such as Nürnberg for example, maybe in some other places the attitude is a little different)

Yes those building sins are horrible, even tho they don´t make grey concrete blocks anymore,
they still make sterile white blocks now, that have no soul as well. I don´t get why noone stands
up in the architecture scene to trigger a new renaisscance of beauty.
