Two Smilodon fatalis on a hillside, overlooking the area now known as La Brea in California, known for it's tar pits. Smilodon fatalis was the medium sized species of its genus, being larger than S. gracilis but smaller than its South American cousin S. populator. Other than that I doubt that this animal needs much of an introduction. In the background you can see rough versions of the Ancestral Californian Condor (Gymnogyps amplus, upper right soaring in the sky) and the American Neophron (Neophrontops americanus, mid left on a branch)
